I am currently reading Jane Eyre for the first time, which I suppose is rather surprising, since being a writer you would think I would be fairly well read! I think I am well read, although there are gaps which I intend to fill one day.
Jane Eyre was not such a gap, I have intentionally not read it, and have come finally to it with much trepidation. My reason for not reading Jane Eyre up to now was that I was afraid to. When I was a child I saw part of a black and white film of Jane Eyre. The part where the tower burns down. It so terrified me,that until now I have not been able to bring myself to read the book.
Am I enjoying it? To be honest, and I feel rather audacious saying this, I am finding it a bit over written, especially as it is told in the voice of a child and a young woman of eighteen, but the jury is still out so I shall conclude when I have reached the end.
