FORGIVEN "Secrets" BLOG 4 (I think)
"FORGIVEN" is a novel wound around a lot of historical fact. The locomotive "The Lady" for instance, was the worlds first narrow gauge 'Compound'and like all new steam locomotives of the 1890's it quickly became obsolete from rapid advances in steam technology and went to an early grave. The old Post Office, the Rutland Hotel and the Watt fountain are still with us, although the Post Office lost its magnificent dome after the Napier earthquake, the Rutland lost its top floor and only the Watt Fountain remains unscathed, although it saw two moves over the years and has only returned to its original site in recent times.

When I researched for my novel FORGIVEN I discovered an article on the Victorian phenomenon where young women were very judgmental of those who were deemed to be "too friendly with men." This could result in social exile that could continue on indefinitely. Intrigued, I incorporated this into the story where Rachel is unjustly vilified by gossip and inuendo and becomes a social outcast. I guess, you will just have to read FORGIVEN to find out how she manages to deal with that.
