I was recently asked to write a blog for another web site and it inspired me to write a few words here. Writing about my own writing allowed me to reflect on why I do it. I don't sell many copies, but I generally get good feedback from the handful of people who read my work, and this gives me confidence to keep going. However, I mainly do it because I enjoy it. It is escapism, and more so than reading I think. Buried in a book written by someone else takes you on a journey - writing your own allows you to direct the journey. How liberating! You can go where you like, how you like, and if it works as a story all the better. If you publish it - great! If you don't then you enjoyed writing it. So my other blog basically says, go for it. But if you don't enjoy it then perhaps you should stop. On the other hand you may find that you can escape to a whole new world that you create. Who said that work can't be fun? - enjoy!
