“Set an Extra Plate” Initiative ~ Thanksgiving TV interview on WPDE

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to talk about my favorite cause on Thanksgiving.

It is my fervent hope to change the world for grieving widows and widowers, if only just a little bit, on holidays. Holidays can be brutally tough, and never more so than if you are grieving and all by yourself, because you’ve been overlooked. In their awkwardness, and sometimes in their self-centeredness, people around us forget to include us in invitations generally, and in holiday invitations in particular. They assume that “somebody else has got us”, or worse, that “he or she would rather be alone”. How utterly cruel!

What if we could get everyone to start looking around in their universe? What if we could get everybody to notice the widows and widowers at church? At work? In the neighborhood?  What if they then started including those folks at their holiday tables?

Can you think of a single kind act that requires less effort? You’re already cooking dinner, you’re already having people over, you’re already setting the table. Why not simply “set an extra plate?  Watch my interview and then think about “rethinking” your holiday meals. It could change your life! I know it will change a widow or widower’s…..
