Why do I write?

Why I write…
Ask ten writers why they write and you’ll get ten different answers.

Why do I write?

I have people talking in my head and if I don’t write down what they say they will hold my brain captive and make me do embarrassing things.

What you don’t believe that?

Ok, I admit it. I do have people talking in my head but they’ve never threatened anything like that... yet.

I have been writing seriously for years, too many than I would want to admit to. I have boxes of scribbled stories, some of which will never see the light of day – thank God! They are terrible and I will never force anyone to read them, but I have some which I plan one day to rework and send them off to my publisher.

Why do I write, you ask…? I write because to not do so would seriously affect my well-being, for when I write, my mind relaxes and the characters in my head take over. They lead the action and whisper their wants into my ears. All my stories are character led from Luca of the Demon Witch series to Adena in ‘Night’ or Gwen from ‘The Bodyguard and Tanyth from ‘The Witch in the Stones’ – every one of them are strong, powerful women who draw me into the midst of their lives so I may tell their stories.

I have a hundred women inside, all bustling to get out and tell me about their worlds, their circumstances and their men. I have to listen to them, although hopefully not all at once. Their words drip onto my fingertips, their hopes and aspiration bleeding through my pores so you, the reader, may enter their universe if only for a while.

Why do I write?

I write because I have no choice, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
