That Time of Year
It’s that time of year again, meaning the end of it. As always, that’s got me thinking about what I’ve accomplished this year and what I want to get done in the next.
Last year I asked you all to write down your goals, wishes and dreams. Well, I hope you know where that piece of paper is because it’s time to pull it out and see how we did!
Amazingly enough, despite moving and the total upheaval that brings to life and things, I know where my list is from last year (I cleverly pinned it to my bulletin board which I kept in my office above my desk, and while it’s no longer above my desk, it’s still in my office).
So, let’s see how I did:
For my goals, I had hoped to write three books: A Rake’s Reward – check; the second Grace Sister book (tentatively call Ghost of a Chance) – um… no; and I had planned to write the third Grace Sister book (for which I don’t even have a plot, let alone a title) – so, no.
My hopes were that my classes would run smoothly and be well received – I’m happy to say I achieved that one. I hoped to improve my writing craft. Since I’ve bought some writing books, read them and worked on developing a new outlining/notebook system, I’m going to check that one off as completed. And I hoped that my books would sell better than they did last year. I am thrilled to say that they are. Happy dance there! All three hopes achieved! Whoo hoo!
As for my dreams, I won’t share each one with you (I wrote down four), but I am thrilled to say that three of them have actually been achieved! Amazing!
So, I didn’t do so well on the goals, but when I wrote out that list I hadn’t anticipated moved, so I’m going to cut myself some slack for that. I did manage to finish writing Bridging the Storm and Rake, as well as a number of short stories (one published in an anthology, the others sent out to my loyal newsletter readers). I’m also very close to being finished with Falling, my contemporary Vallen book. So I feel that I did all right with my productivity this year.
I am still hopeful that next year I’ll get those two Grace Sister books written and I’ve got ideas for new books as well (two have come to me as tie-ins to go with Falling because I always manage to create romances between my secondary characters which will need books of their own). So my mind is just buzzing with books to be written (it never ends, does it?). And I will take the time to write out my hopes and dreams for the next year as well because I really liked that idea, and I loved being able to revisit my ideas from last year.
So did you write out your goals, hopes and dreams last year? Any idea where that piece of paper is? If so, please share how you did!
And I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I’m going to be traveling with my family at the end of next week, so I think I’ll take the week off from my blog (I do it so rarely, so I hope you’ll forgive me). Have a wonderful and safe holiday and I’ll “see” you all in the new year!
