Patreon Kick-Off

For those of you who enjoy watching my translations of the NHK tournament and other translations of Asian language Go materials, I am kicking off a Patreon campaign.  Patreon is a website that allows you to support artists and people who create content.  I decided to start the Patreon campaign because frankly speaking, churning out these translations is a lot of work.  It usually takes between 5-6 hours to translate and time the subtitles.  I am going to continue translating videos no matter what, however, it want support from the Go community as I continue doing this important work.

I started doing the translations as a way to keep up my Japanese.  I originally learned Japanese and Chinese to read Go books in their native language so I could learn how to play.  When I was living in the United States, and now that I'm in China, I had little to no chance to use my Japanese, and I felt translation work would keep me sharp.

Now I'm seeing just how much people enjoy the translations.  I would like for the next generation of Go players to have more materials available to them in English.  I think in turn this creates a more vibrant community, and helps spread Go in the Western world.

My plan is to release 2-4 translations a month.  I am not limited to the NHK cup or Japanese language videos, but could also translate Korean and Chinese tournaments.  If you pledge anywhere from $1-$20 a month, I have rewards such as free copies of the "So You Want to Play Go?" series and game reviews.  Please visit my Patreon page here and consider being a supporter!

I also pledge to translate any Cho Chikun games I come across :P
