Actually, the term "politically correct" was adopted by conservatives to create a backlash against human rights movements. What you call "PC" is simply showing marginalized people respect and finally letting them have a say in the conversation about themselves (including being able to define what others should call them, instead of that being done by outsiders.) It's just basic decency.
