Q1. I think it was Sarah's way of letting Tony know about Adrian's junior existence also her involvement with Adrian senior. But why was this important to her? The amount of money was very small and therefore it raises more questions.
Veronica calls it "Blood money", is this directed at her dead mother or Tony?
Still would like to know what Q2 ( wave gesture) means. It features in the beginning of the book and I think it is a strong clue to something, but don't know what.
I really should re-read the book with questions in front of me and a piece of paper and a pen. That way I might get closer to "the truth".

#3 - I'd add that (I don't have the book in front of me; this is from memory) in Tony's letter to Adrian and Veronica he tells Adrian to visit Veronica's mother (to really understand what V was all about) - if A hadn't met V's mom, then no baby....?

OK, so I just finished and also had the same questions. I was wondering if perhaps that Tony got it wrong yet again and the child was really his and Veronica's. Adrian offs himself once the pregnancy is discovered and the mum wills his diary so Tony will finally know the truth.

Bearing in mind that 500 British pounds was only worth about $2,500 in US dollars at that time. Not a lot of money. Like a token amount really, even perhaps a bit of an insult.
