Wow. Great analyzing. You must get A's on all your English papers in school (assuming you're still in school).
It's entirely possible that this "game" of bullying stopped and Daelyn gains control by simply not playing (aka dying so that the bullies could no longer hurt her). Daelyn could also have interpreted the man going over to the dog as her bullies finally realizing the consequences of their actions now that she's dead. I don't know.
I feel like she did kill herself. The day before DoD she gave Emily her neck brace because she didn't want Emily to take her place after she's gone. Even on that last day she's set on killing herself. I understand that she finally opens up to Santana and even cries in front of him, but it seems a bit unlikely to me that that those couple of minutes could change everything.
Your acknowledgment of the last sentence with the "purpose" is interesting though. I'd like to believe she lived because it would suck for Santana to lose a friend on his birthday, but my interpretation of this book changes every time I read it. Guess it's just the way the author intended.
