Amanda I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I did't even think of this myself and now it's really annoying me!!

Soham Ghosh I know this is a really long shot, but this is the only possible explanation I can think of, that makes some sense. Maybe Beck panicked and ran as soon as he shot Scope, instead of waiting around to make sure if Scope was dead. In the meantime, I believe Elizabeth had returned home earlier than Beck expected her (I’m guessing she wasn’t supposed to be back until the next day, but she was anyway) and stumbled upon the body, and had immediately called her father for help, after which the two of them got rid of the body. Upon returning from his run and seeing that the body had vanished, Beck might have assumed that the shot hadn’t killed Scope and that he’d escaped with a bullet wound. Must have driven him crazy, not knowing where Scope was and what he might do to him if he survived. Maybe Elizabeth actually was supposed to be out of town (maybe at Atlantic City, like Beck told Helio) and she took her time to return home (maybe a whole day). By the time she officially returned, Scope’s body had already been discovered and Helio had already been charged with the murder, so Beck didn’t feel the need to confess to his wife right away. He might have thought that he was in the clear, because he guessed that after leaving his house bleeding that night, Scope had succumbed to his wounds somewhere outdoors. Maybe after the whole thing had blown over, he finally decided to tell his wife at the lake, after he was sure that he had gotten away with it.
