M Good point Eileen! One of the strings left dangling for me was that part where the mother is seen with a mysterious companion. I wish that could have been expanded more!

Ginger I caught that too Eileen! Glad it wasn't me just 'reading into it'. Made me wonder if her mother had her own dejevu!

Cindy Yes!!!

message 4: by Debby (new)

Debby I think the mysterious companion was George, the cook's son. It would explain why she took care of him when he came back from the war with his head injury. She would go over to feed him but not tell her husband where she had been that day.

Tynan Whoa, that's an interesting idea, Debby!

Sharyn Lonsdale I agree that Sylvie had her own deja vu, remember how tired of the world she seemed and the scissors clinched it for me.

message 7: by Rosella (new)

Rosella The idea of it being George is an interesting idea, but it doesn't hold water. Sylvie saw her mother in London after the war had ended, when George would already have had whatever happened to him happen. Also, Ursula would have recognized George.

Vee What you've reminded me about Syvlie's scissors made me think maybe everyone does have their own deja vu, but Ursula's is just stronger so she actually believes those events and choices did happen, and maybe others believe this and like Ursula went to a therapist. However, they weren't as 'lucky' as her so they got sent to a mental hospital/ignored/not believed etc. unlike Ursula?

Nan Sprester Definitely not George. Ursula saw him and described him as elegant, not a term to describe the farmer.
