It will get slower for another 2 books and then really gather a lot of pace after that (from book 11 onwards).
Totally agree about the female characters, they really started to get on my nerves. I ploughed through quite a few books in the series but gave up after a while as I found myself re-writing some of the comments/actions of the 'women', and as a consequence I lost the flow...
