I'm so glad you enjoyed it! This book/author was quite a find. But now we need the next book...
I think it was your review that brought it to my attention, so thank you! I just added a question to my review that I meant to include, in case you remember the incident I'm talking about & can answer.
Oh yeah, I remember that scene... but it was early enough in the book that I didn't yet know what the 'rules' were for that world, so I didn't find it jarring. I'd have to go back and check the text, because although I have a vague recollection that it was explained, no details come to mind.
I feel like it must’ve been because the writing & editing were too good for a slip-up like that, but I missed it. Oh well.
The long-game explanation is that Trace’s power amplifies the spirits’ strength so sometimes they can manifest more clearly & to other people. But my head-canon is that that priest just had something he wanted to say to both of them.
