MINDLESSAMBITION. Hello. I go by Genesis, and I’m looking to start beta reading.

I’m open to most genres and all sorts of content. Make it bloody, hot and heavy, super fucked up, whatever. I’m here for it. The only genre I don’t really read is sci-fi.
I tend to be blunt (but not straight up mean), so expect honest and detailed feedback. I am a student currently, so I might not be the fastest, but I’ll give regular updates to let you know how far I am, what I’m thinking so far, and how long I think it’ll take for me to finish.

Leave a message if you’re interested, and I’ll give you my email so we can communicate further.

Cat Hi, I have a 120K NA High Fantasy. I'm looking for a more general review of my manuscript.

It's about a half faerie that is pulled into a war against the Unseelie King after having worked peacefully for about ten years at the human army.

If you're interested please contact me or email me at catibalteanu2005@gmail.com

Bethany Nicholls Hi Genesis,
I have a completed contemporary paranormal drama novel that I'd love some unbiased feedback on. It's about 41k words (short, I know, but it's the first book the series) and follows my sassy redhead protagonist as she works through some serious personal issues and fights the urge to slaughter everyone, all while being taunted by the evil voice in her head haha :)
If it's something you think you'd be interested in, please feel free to drop me a message :)
Thanks,
Beth

Sara Buskirk Hi! Im looking for Beta readers for my debut novel A Cowboy's Runaway (Book 1 of 3 of the Hartley Brothers Series).

It's 92,000 words, western historical romance, slow burn, annoyance-lovers, sweet romance, with a grumpy cowboy and a stubborn woman who becomes his ranch hand.

*Clean Romance*

After I will hire a proofreader next so I'm mostly looking for constructive feedback for the overall story and character development.

Here is my book blurb (still a work in progress):

He wanted me gone, and now he won’t let me out of his sight. It’s rather inconvenient.

Emma
He’s annoyingly handsome, arrogant, and my temporary boss. I never meant to be out west this long to search for the one who can prove my innocence. But now Im working on his family ranch and he won’t let me out of his sight. Being forced to search with him is slowing me down. Running away may be my only option because being wanted for murder and arson is bound to catch up to me soon.

James
Why does she have to be so stubborn? If she’d just do as she’s told and stop fighting me, we’d have a smooth working ranch. Currently it’s as functional as a wagon with a missing wheel. It’s not going anywhere fast. And I need it to be fast. As soon as my injured pa recovers and Emma finds her roommate, I can leave and never come back to this place where old memories make me regret the haunting past I’m trying to forget.

John Hello Genesis,
I have a contemporary novel at 158k words.

Blurb:
One morning in a coffee shop, Alex is beside himself to meet Pete Shehann, whom it seems has some experience in the very subject of which he is a self-proclaimed enthusiast. Reluctant yet prompted, Pete shares his story, beginning with how his father abandoned him as a child in rural 1930s Oklahoma, leaving him embittered and believing himself a failure, proven time and again. And marrying May couldn’t be luck at all but a fluke, even if she has her own problems. After losing all of her family in a tragic accident, a terrible void remains, and she wants children more than anything.
An unexpected inheritance raises suspicions yet sends Pete and May to a new life in Oregon, where they meet Stevens, the attorney handling the inheritance and proving himself a faithful friend in the years to come. But a tragedy that happened on their journey haunts Pete, eventually conforming to an eerie parallel with May after her health fails following the negative results of an infertility test. It greatly disturbs Pete to discover he isn’t even enough for his own wife to want to live, but he determines to do whatever it takes to save her. And what of himself? Is he destined a lifetime of failure?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Zoovi Hey Genesis

My book is a low fantasy set in India with an alternate mythology. There are Gods, demons, angels and an immortal whom only the MC can see.

I’m only looking for betas to review the first three chapters. Mostly, I want to know if the first chapter is captivating enough and would like general feedback on the characters, pacing and the writing.

If that interests you, you can either contact me directly through email at zoovi.author@gmail.com, letting me know you’re from Goodreads. Or you can mention your email address for me to send you the chapters.

Terry Ernsberger Hi Genesis,

I have a completed 96k suspense novel, and was wondering if you would be interested in beta reading it for me.

Blurb:

All hell breaks loose when Dr. Maximilian Gold, a prominent archaeologist and multimillionaire, discovers a skeleton with a modern dental filling in one of its teeth buried deep within his 3,000 year old prehistoric archaeological excavation.

News of the murder draws in unwanted attention to Max's site. The Organization, a shadowy corporation whose mission is to collect the world's ancient relics, sends in their covert team, raids the excavation and steals all of the rare artifacts.

With his site decimated and all evidence of the murder eliminated, Max spares no expense as he sets out on a vengeance quest that leads him into the darkest realms of the illegal antiquities trade and into the crosshairs of the killer.

All the best,
Terry

Jonah Hey,
I have a completed literary fiction/magical realism 85k which I would really appreciate getting a more youthful perspective on. It is about two broken men on opposite sides of the country who have suffered great loss and are brought together 'accidentally', trade their problems, and become healed. It has some helpful almost biblical characters and some situations that have turned some readers off, some pretty foul language and obnoxious characters. Also some humor, compassion, and love.
Interested?

This story weaves back and forth between the past and present, revealing their passionate love story. Thanks in advance!

message 16: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy Hi Genesis,

I'm looking for betas for an adult heroic adventure fantasy.

I have a high fantasy book about 100,000 words. 18+/adult
First of a series, but it's the only one finished right now.

Book's genre: Adventure Romantic Fantasy (think Hobbit with sex and without Hobbits)
Word count 100,000
Romance between a human man and two hermaphroditic cat people.
I use the hir/xe pronouns for them
POV details: multiple third person
Kinds of sex scenes (if applicable): steamy romance, no kink
Level of violence: some graphic battle scenes, mild torture

Tropes: first time, grudging allies to friends to lovers, straight man getting sexual with a penis, taking care of people who are sick, finding a magical artifact, traveling, alpha/protective male

Simple Synopsis – Akani, an ex mercenary trying to stop a war he started, hired three felinori to take him across country to find a magical potion to heal a queen to stop the war. Along the way, the group surmounts several adversaries and road locks, and he learns more about the felinori and discovers love in a world he never thought possible.

Rough Blurb –
Painted in blood by the actions of his past, ex-mercenary Akani vows to atone for the wrongs he delivered to the world. A war rages across the land he had a hand in starting, and he's convinced he can end the needless conflict by recovering an arcane artifact hidden in a ruined tower across the mountains. He just needs companions to join him on the long and dangerous journey riddled with conscription raids, packs of man-eating guels, and the hazards of the wilds.

Three felinori are his unlikely fellows. A cat-like, hermaphroditic race, the felinori hate humans, who spread like a hungry firestorm across the land and attack their homes. They also need to cross the mountains to find the sacred Haven Tree to heal the tree of their own village evil humans had poisoned.

The four make the journey, surmounting trials none even considered, and together they learn more about each other and discover love in a place they never thought possible.

This is a steamy fantasy romance between humans and nonhumans, using the felinori pronouns xi/hir for the felinori.

Thanks

message 18: by Rob (new)

Rob Witherspoon Hello, Genesis,
What a coincidence.
Trigger Warning! The subject of this query letter is a blasphemous novel. It does not belong in the hands of anyone who devoutly follows any of the Abrahamic traditions. The Gospel of Lucre, a 97,000-word historical fiction novel is not for the close-minded. Book I at 8500 words is the first installment.
Kristos, a first century caravan master and con man, abandons the trade routes and settles in Roman occupied Judea. The knowledge of medicine and mythology acquired on his travels throughout the ancient world serves him well to swindle the uneducated and superstitious. The resentment and civil unrest simmering in Jerusalem inspires him to pull his boldest con of all time. He will be the Jewish Messiah.
With a cadre of trusted caravan mates, he travels the countryside preaching, healing, and recruiting disciples. He first liberates Mary, a Magdalene prostitute, by killing her vicious pimp. Along the way, he adds a mentally damaged Nazarene named Jesus and his mother, two corruptible fishermen, two tax collectors, a talented artist, and an assortment of camp followers who aid and abet him.
As the movement grows, it attracts the attention of a fanatical priest intent on returning the apostates to the fold. The holy man revels in torture, terror, and murder as he pursues his self-righteous compulsions. Driven by religious fervor, but tormented by sinful longings, Saul of Tarsus will stop at nothing until he has Kristos in chains and young Barnabas in his bed.
While Kristos tours the country, gaining followers and growing his treasury, his brother Yakob remains in Jerusalem where he makes connections and establishes a criminal organization. Yakob’s influence on the Romans, the Sanhedrin, Herod, and Pontius Pilate will determine whether the scam succeeds, and whether Kristos lives or dies.
Kristos returns to Jerusalem where, to further convince his followers of his divinity and escape persecution, he fakes his crucifixion and resurrection. He escapes with pregnant Mary and leaves the fledgling religion in the capable hands of his brother. But he faces the obsessed priest one final time in a showdown on the road to Damascus.
The book originated as an idea for a short story after reading about the rise and fall of televangelists Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker. I knew there were medieval charlatans, and wondered how far back they went. I intended to write a short story about a fifth century con man but decided to take it all the way back to Anno Domini XXX. The Gospel of Lucre imagines a plausible alternative to the writings of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
The time period, geography, history, and background is thoroughly researched.
Thanks for your consideration.
Best regards,
Rob

Hi Mindlessambition. I have a Fantasy dark romance novel that is a part of a duology that I think you would like.

Content warning:
Torture, death, self harm, explicit sex, sexual violence, sexual assault, Abusive- control based relationship, slut shaming, xenophobia.

Blurb:
In the shadows of the Naphalia Kingdom, Angelica Teresi finds solace in the promise of a scholarship to the esteemed Blackleaf University, yearning for the semblance of a normal life she's never known. But destiny has other plans.

When she walks into the Luna-Attic on the full moon, she thinks she managed to escape the clutches of the vicious Emperor. But fate had already weaved its intricate threads, and Gabriel storms right back into her life, nearly destroying her and everything she thought she knew about herself.

He paid with blood to keep her safe, but when keeping her safe means losing her, will he bring himself to make the trade?

For fans of Sarah J. Mass, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Scarlett St. Clair, this scorching dark romantic fantasy will ignite your soul. A tale not for the faint of heart, suited for those aged 18 and above.

In a dance of fate and ruin, can they defy the odds, or will they be consumed by the darkness that binds them

CJ Yardley Hi Genesis!

I have a 93k-word contemporary story with wholesome MxM romantic elements (no smut). It deals with generational trauma and its effects on a family, dealt with through a series of letters the main character's deceased mother left him. On the way there's a bunch of secrets that need to come out, and several (hopefully) huge twists.

Could you please let me know if you'd be at all interested in such a story?

Thanks!
CJ

Maja Hi Genesis,

Are you interested in a 69k erotic novel?

Blurb
Giulia has finally left the family business to try to make it on her own when she meets Michael who makes her question her priorities. He is a car designer whose family owns a luxurious car company and who struggles to find inspiration for his next car design. That changes once he meets Giulia at the Edinburgh car convention.
The couple embarks on a hedonistic journey together, not the least one in their own minds. A proof that intelligence is the highest form of aphrodisiac. This is a story about sensuality and elevated sexual experiences set in beautiful environments and stimulating dialogue.

James Hadley-Grave Hey Caleb,

I am looking to gather a group of beta readers for the first draft of my YA Epic Romantasy Fiction Novel with BL (Boys Love) - the main character is gay but it's not the main focal point of the story.

The project is due to start on 15 June 2024.

Current Blurb:

"Amidst a realm torn by war and sibling rivalry for the throne, a surprising alliance emerges when an unexpected visitor, an enemy prince, arrives at the city gates bearing knowledge of rising evil.

For Chase, navigating the treacherous currents of political intrigue and personal vendettas becomes imperative as he reluctantly forges an alliance with this unlikely adversary. Together, they must set aside their inherited bitter history to confront the far greater threat looming on the horizon.

Yet, as they venture into the depths of this daunting quest, they quickly realize that appearances can be deceiving, and trust becomes their most elusive weapon.

Embark on a spellbinding journey, where magic intertwines with the bonds of love, friendship, duty and family. Each tested fiercely under the looming shadow of betrayal. The fate of the three kingdoms hangs precariously in the balance.

If you're drawn to the allure of epic warfare and an enthralling love story, brace yourself for a captivating adventure unlike any other."
