Adrienne Morris I think the movies and tv have done a pretty poor job creating stories about the Civil War that aren't saturated with Lost Cause romanticism. There needs to be more about the heroism of the common Northern soldier that credits them for their work during (and especially after) the Civil War in securing the rights of the Freedmen. The GAR is an almost forgotten organization that should be celebrated.

I'm in complete agreement with you about most Civil War Film & TV being contaminated by the Lost Cause Myth and that the antidote is more stories about heroic Northerners during and after war aiding Black Americans. I honestly prefer African American voices being key to those types of stories (The March, Fort Pillow, The Tubman Command, Glory 1989, Emancipation 2022, etc.) but that's just me. Also what is the GAR? I've never heard of it and would very much like to.
