Kat Medina What is your favorite book and why?

I'll start!

Harry Potter series. This was probably the first book that really got me into reading. I love that it compels the imagination to transport me to a different world, one of connection and possibility.

Ayoub Imilouane It’s Tales of Habib the Hoaxter.
It's a collection of witty stories with twists that will make you smile or laugh with surprised delight.
For adults and children from age nine. Don’t miss this rare jewel!

Jason Gabriel Probably "Fellowship of the Ring." It absolutely transported me to a different world. I still have dreams where I'm somehow transported into that world. It's where I started my journey into Fantasy books and later SCI/Fi. Needless to say, it was transformative for me.

MidWorld by Allen Dean Foster. That book has been hugely influential on me.

Said Addich The Alchemist of Paulo Coelho
The first time I read it was ten years ago, and the last time, a couple of days ago !

Jason Cameron I would have to say "The Wheel of Time" by Robert Jordan. It has some competitors, but the scope of that story, the character development, world-building, magic systems, and political structures are masterfully crafted. It has no rival in those aspects except perhaps for "Lord of the Rings", which is a VERY close second.

And what makes this your favorites? =]

message 17: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Winters I have two, one fiction and one nonfiction.

Favorite fiction book is a young adult book by Sarah Dessen called Just Listen. It is beautiful, heartbreaking and so addictive. Trigger warning though for SA.

My favorite nonfiction book is The Happiness Project about a writer who makes a commitment to be happier through a series of themed resolutions. It is funny, lighthearted and very enlightening. These two books have really been a comfort to me when I was going through tough times.

J. Rubino I would say "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite novel - it is perfectly balanced and has all of the components a good novel should have.
For non-fiction, there are several, but one that took my by surprise was "Over The Edge of the World," by Laurence Bergreen. My education in Magellen's voyage pretty much ended with 6th grade world history, but this was fascinating, a genuine page-turner.
Also, "The Forsaken" by Tim Tzouliadis. It's the story of Americans who left the US during the Depression for jobs in an industrializing Soviet Union and got caught up in Stalin's political landscape. I got a book club to read it and they were stunned that this remarkable episode in US/world history was something they'd never heard of nor been taught in school.

Pat Spencer My favorite is "Poisonwood Bible" by my favorite author, Barbara Kingsolver.

Victor Torvich J.-H. Rosny aîné: Quest for Fire. I read it many times. It beautifully shows the power of nature in primitive people and around them.
