William Special note: May is AAPI Heritage Month. Nominations of books by AAPI novelists will be given preference.

Place your nominations for the book poll here. The 2 books with the most nominations and seconds will be placed on the monthly poll.
Here are the current guidelines:

- Book is by an author of color
- Book must be at least six months after publication date
- Is available in libraries (this is easy to check in GR – check click on library on the book page.
- A sentence on why you are nominating the book is appreciated
- Indicate if you would be willing to moderate/co-moderate the discussion of the book you suggest/nominate

Also, newer members may want to peruse the list of books, found here, that have been previously selected so as not to be redundant.

Namy I'd like to nominate either
Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning By Cathy Park Hong
OR
The Leavers: A Novel By Lisa Ko

I am nominating two books as I am very open. You could feel free to pick one of them please. (or both?)
I heard those books pick up the "minor" feelings and it could make people to think about microagression. I can totally relate to the title themselves: leavers and minor feelings.

I am not sure if I could moderate the discussion as much since I have not actively participated before. However, I will try to contribute as a co-moderator or more like an assistant!

I don’t think we’ve chosen THE LEAVERS before so I think that one is doable. However, MINOR FEELINGS, although highly acclaimed, is not fiction. Therefore not eligible.

Namy ah, Apologies. I should have listed fiction only. Could I add the Native Speaker by Changrae Lee?
Thank you.

Amala's Que Mai Phan Nguyen
The Mountains Sing

A book by this author would be great for AAPI month. She is a Vietnamese author and this was her first one in English.

I probably would not be best to moderate, I am not a huge discussion contributor.

maya ☆ (is furiously studying!) i would like to submit two titles actually:

the first one is called Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami, a japanese woman.

it's about loneliness and the multitude of undertones in human relationships between a 38 year old woman and a 68 year old man who meet again after the man used to be her teacher.

the second one is called Concerning My Daughter by Kim Hye-jin, a korean woman.

it's about the love and the intergenerational conflicts between a mother and her daughter after the daughter moves back in with her mom. it focuses mainly on homophobia in korean families and society at large.

Concerning My Daughter sounds amazing. I’m gonna read it whether it’s selected or not; possibly a buddy read. Definitely 2nd this one.

Namy Hi, I thought my nomination of the Leavers by Lusa Ko and the Native Speaker by Chanrae Lee were accepted. However they are not on the poll ?

Hello Namy. As stated in the first post at the top of the page, "The 2 books with the most nominations and seconds will be placed on the monthly poll." Unfortunately your nominations received no seconds. The books appearing on the poll did.
