Beth A. Hi. I’m Beth. I am a stay-at-home mom of two: Boy 10, Girl 6. I quilt, swim, sew, read, and spend way too much time on Goodreads. In the past I’ve worked as a veterinary assistant and a dental hygienist. I’m super shy in person. My house is usually a mess, and I’m often late. And, I like ice cream more than I should, in fact, I’m eating some right now.

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie I will introduce myself, I'm Julie. I live in Arizona, I have four girls, two are at home in high school. I am a grandma as of april 15, a grandson named Jackson, they live in Idaho. My other daughter is a student at BYU. I stay at home and love reading, I like zumba, and I like to play board games.

message 3: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Slatten I also like ice cream way more than I should. And I read when I should be getting ready for work. I live on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast with my husband and 5 children; Kylie 23, Bryson 19, Lauren 18, Conner 15, & Maxwell 11. I joined the Church in September and my "anti" husband followed suit in November! I am a hairstylist (which I think is more hobby/social than work). I act in the local theatre and my husband and I are Co-Cultural Arts Directors for our ward. I also teach the greatest bunch of teens (16-18) Sunday School so... although my 'reading time' is somewhat limited - it is my passion, and I'll try to keep up.

message 4: by Nancy (new)

Nancy My name is Nancy. I live in Rockford Illinois with my husband of nearly 45 years. We have three grown sons, and six grandchildren. I'm a family history consultant, and I have worked in the family history library for over 20 years. My husband and I were Cub Scout leaders close to 20 years. I love working in our garden, and I grow both flowers, and food. I love to sew, and a friend and I taught girls 8-11 years old, how to sew. I love to read. When I was a kid, I would take the bus to the library, and check out the maximum number of books, which was 7 books. Now I go a little crazy. I check out audiobooks, and ebooks from our local library. I have an audiobook in my car, a couple of books on my MP3 player, stacks of books to read, and several books on my kindle at any given time. One son lives in Arizona, one lives in California, and our oldest son lives in Machesney Park Illinois. I love to swim, and work out at the YMCA. The tulips and daffodils are so lovely in our yard right now.

message 5: by Carri (new)

Carri I'm Carri and I'm from Moab, Utah. I have five awesome children and seven adorable grandchildren with two more on the way. I love my family!! Also, sewing, hiking, photography, hanging around teenagers, and reading (of course) When I was a kid I used to eat the corners of the pages of my books. I don't know why, I think it must have been because books smell SO GOOD!! But I like to think I was just trying to make them a part of me. I decided several years ago to read my age in book each year. So every year the number of books I read goes up by one. Someday I hope to reach a year when I read 100 books :)

I Beth, we have some things in common! I am also super shy and my house is usually a mess. But I have a thing about being late, mostly, I think, due to my shyness, I hate to walk into a room late and have everyone turn and stare :) So I am an on time person. Good to meet you.

message 7: by Beth A. (new)

Beth A. That's a great goal Carri. My grandma just turned 100.

message 8: by Maurine (new)

Maurine Hi guys!

I'm sorry it took so long for me to introduce myself... I just started my next round of schooling and I'm a little overwhelmed! UGH! lol

I'm a stay-at-home mom of 4 little monsters, ages 11, 9, 7, and 4. I run a daycare out of my home as well with 3 more monsters, ages 7, 3, and 1. I am also going to school full-time, trying to get my bachelors and eventually enter into the Sonography program to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ultrasound tech)... WHEW! lol

I LOVE to read... In fact, recently I've had to put a few rules down on myself that I'm only allowed to read at my allotted times (ie. In the bathroom, at the bus stop, and when in line)... Otherwise, my home and family suffer... So, keep that in mind, that when I'm reading, most likely little hands are banging on the bathroom door trying to get in! LOL

I'm so excited to start reading with you guys! Hopefully, I can keep up! :)

message 9: by Beth A. (new)

Beth A. Wow, Maurine,
I don't know how you have any time to read at all.
Being an ultrasound tech sounds like it'd be a great job.

message 10: by Maurine (new)

Maurine Thanks, Beth... Yea.. Pretty much I don't have time to read, but it's a guilty pleasure I refuse to give up: that, along with chocolate! Lol

Hi Maurine, I used to sneak small amounts of times to read, when my children were small. Keep it up.

message 12: by Maurine (new)

Maurine Will do! Thanks Nancy! :)

message 13: by Beca (new)

Beca I am so glad to have found this group of fabulous LDS ladies here on Goodreads!

I'm Beca. I live in Orem and am mom to a 5-year-old boy, would-be 2-year-old stillborn, and a 10-month-old girl. I love to read things that take me out of this world and on an adventure and also psychology and self-help books. I like to keep house, run, sing, and play my flute, but most of my time lately has been consumed with marketing a book I wrote, Pros of Prozac: A Faith-based Memoir of Overcoming the Stigma.

If anyone is interested in reading my book, I will send you a free digital copy or audiobook in return for a review:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

So nice to meet you all!

message 14: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Waggoner I recently joined the group, but completely forgot to intro myself. My name is Debbie. I'm a southern California native who lives in Austin, Texas, y'all :)
I have four grown sons, 7 grandchildren, and 2 full time furry companions, my Basset Hound Bogey and my SharPei, Rydik. They love it when I make time to read, as I sit quietly in the big reading chair with them. My taste in reading is like my taste in life, very eclectic, so I'm excited to see what y'all like to read.

message 20: by Rachel (new)

Rachel John Hi, I am Rachel. I live in Arizona, I'm married and I have three crazy little boys. I love to read and read way too much now that I have a Kindle. I am always looking for new clean books to read. I started experimenting with self-publishing on Amazon back in February. I have two non-fiction books. One is just a detailed list of activities for toddlers (99 cents) and another is a Baby Names book that was so much fun to put together and ended up taking a lot longer than I expected. I just put up the LDS novel that I finished and I was so excited that I finally finished it that I didn't consider how terrifying it would be to put up. This is a long introduction! Sorry! Anyway, if anyone is interested, the novel is called, What Not to Say When You're Running Away.

message 21: by Maurine (new)

Maurine Hi Rachel!
Your book sounds cute! What's it about?
I'm in Arizona too... Phoenix... Are you anywhere near me?

message 22: by Rachel (new)

Rachel John Hi Maurine!
My book is about a student at Eastern Arizona College who ends up living across the street from her ex-boyfriend's brother. He's perfect for her, but she doesn't want to have anything to do with him.
I live in Buckeye, but I grew up in Mesa.

message 23: by Dianne (new)

Dianne Maurer Hello! I'm Dianne from Hillsboro, Oregon. I am a mother of five and grandma to one. I love books and reading, but am a terrible writer, so I'm not very good at giving decent reviews. But I'm good at reading them :) I just need to find more time in my day to read something besides my scriptures. I'm finding lots of inspiration here on Goodreads.

Debbie Lee Hi. My name is Debbie and I am a stay at home mom of three teenagers. I love to read, scrapbooking, making cards, and knitting. I live in Puyallup, Washington.

message 25: by Brooke (new)

Brooke -Brooke's Books Hi. My name is Brooke and I am a stay at home mom of 2 girls, 15 and 12. While my husband was in training we lived in Galveston, TX and St. Louis, MO. Last year we moved to Fort Collins, CO where we are hoping to be settled for a long time. We have lived here 11 months and so far we love it.
I like to volunteer in the schools (in the library specifically!) and read. I love the public library and the inter-library loan system as that is how I find LDS authors' books. I read to escape. I like YA fiction, historical fiction, and most recently have discovered LDS fiction/romance.

message 26: by Nancy (new)

Nancy How much does it cost to get an inner library loan? Getting LDS books is something I would like to do, without buying them. I have a friend who has a bunch to give away, so I need to go see what she wants to give away.

Inter-library loans are free at my library. They usually are or maybe have a small fee. Ask the librarian to help you the first time to see how much it costs and how it is done. I do mine online through our library's website. The information you need is the title, author, publisher, and isbn number. I find all that information on goodreads listed under the book.

message 28: by Ellen (new)

Ellen About time I posted an introduction here: I was born and raised in Canada's capital city: Ottawa, Ontario. Nearly 27 years ago, we moved from east to west; from big city to small - and I now live on a farm in southern Alberta.

Mother of 4, grandmother of 10 ... and counting; I now work nearly full time as a bookkeeper, again, in town. In addition my love of genealogy has caused me to take university and online courses - attend conferences - to learn how to better document and research for myself and others. We have now formed our own research company. I enjoy teaching - the gospel and genealogy.

Though I have little time to quilt/sew anymore, I manage to spend time with family and friends, dream of traveling, and read. We have a local women's book club in town - that I have been attending for about 9 years now. We meet apx monthly, and I have read books that I would not have picked up or known about - had someone in the group not introduced it to me.
Thus, I join with you, to see where we travel in the book reading world together - IF I can keep up with your swift reading!

message 29: by Heather (new)

Heather Hi! I'm Heather and I live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. I have one adopted daughter who is nine this year. I also play mommy to my niece and nephew that live with us and a couple of unofficial "foster" kids who spend all of their waking hours at our house. I always wondered how I would provide a sibling experience for my daughter and learned that the Lord does provide!

I begged my mom to teach to me to read when I was four and I haven't stopped since. I like a wide range of genres and styles and I look forward to seeing what this group is reading.

message 30: by Rachel (new)

Rachel John Heather - what an awesome motherhood experience! My husband and I tried for years to get pregnant, adopted twice and then immediately after bringing our second home (like next day) found out I was pregnant. So we have a 6, 5 and 3 year old - all boys. I think Heavenly Father likes to remind us who is in charge.

message 31: by Brooke (new)

Brooke -Brooke's Books Heather, I grew up in the Washington D.C. Stake and my parents and sister and her family, brother and his family are all in the Seneca Stake. I'm glad I get to go back and visit, but wish I could go more often.

message 32: by Meredith (new)

Meredith I'm Meredith. I often lurk around this site and don't post much, but I really like reading all of your posts and thoughts.

I have four kids, ages 7, 5, 3, 1, and a husband in the middle of a PhD program. We live outside Seattle, but I'm mostly from Wisconsin and many other places.

I like to read all kinds of things, try new recipes, travel, dabble in writing, and dream about all the things I'm going to do someday when I have more time:)

I can also be quite opinionated, which I'm working on, but I love a good discussion! I'm looking forward to trying out this online book club format.

message 33: by Michael-Ann (last edited May 31, 2013 11:25AM) (new)

Michael-Ann I have been following you all for a while and finally decided I should actually join in! I am Michael-Ann and I live in Springville, Utah. I loved books when I was young but stopped reading for pleasure about junior high or high school. I still read fiction, but it was almost always assigned reading. As an elementary school teacher for the past 23 years and mom for the past 21 years, I used my "free time" (isn't that a misnomer!) to read children's books or books about parenting & teaching. It was when I went back to school for an intensive 15 month master's degree program that I felt desperate for a mental break and picked up a fictional book for grown-ups! That was in 2010. I have read voraciously (more than 100 novels) ever since. I started gravitating towards LDS fiction, admittedly hesitantly at first, because I like a good romance but hate blatant sexual content. It amazed me how often people would recommend an author as "clean" whose books were actually "mostly clean" except for a very explicit scene (or 2) somewhere in the last 1/3 of the book! I am very interested in finding non-LDS authors who use very little or no profanity and have no explicit sexual content. I like mysteries, FBI/CIA/spy novels and romances.

message 34: by Amber G. (new)

Amber G. Michael-ann, you described what I am looking for in books perfectly! I like crime novels with nothing explicit. It's hard to find. I like Monk, Matlock, Murder She Wrote and wish more books were like those shows.

message 35: by Ellen (new)

Ellen I agree with you Michael-ann and Amber! Have you read any of the Maisie Dobbs mysteries? The descriptions included are important to solving the mysteries...

I think its Jacqueline Winspear, the author.
I enjoy them especially when my whole life is busy - they are a comforting mystery to read... give it a try!

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello To All,

I would like the opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Dominique and currently reside in Chicago. I have spent most of my life here and love the hustle of the city life; although a quiet solitary atmosphere is always a great get-away.

I have four daughter and a few degrees under my belt. Nothing worth mentioning as it pertains to my writing. I'm an avid reader, and currently have 3 published works. I have dazzled in the fiction area, but for some reason or another non-fiction is easier.

Amber G. I haven't read their books yet but I definitely plan to. My goal is to get through all the books I'm half way in and then delve into lots more. I've gotten away from reading for a little while and happy to have summer to get back into it.

Beverly Farr Howdy from Texas. I'm an LDS mom of three with oldest dd on a mission. I love quilting and 1930s and 1940s films. I write quirky sweet romances under my maiden name www.beverlyfarr.com

Right now my books are more mainstream, still sweet, but I do have some LDS plots rummaging around in my brain, too. I'll send anyone a coupon for a free book if they want to review it. beverly.farr.author@gmail.com

I work full time as an attorney, stay up too late to write, and occasionally read something someone else wrote.
