Baylan Curious what you've got planned for this month.

mario I want to read Blackouts by Justin Torres ! I read We The Animals last year , and really liked it !

message 3: by Jon (new)

Jon Denton I read ALL FOURS by Miranda July which I liked a lot, ditto BLACKOUTS.... and I MAKE ENVY ON YOUR DISCO by Eric Schnall which I really seriously LOVED--that book surprised me!

Next up I may finally read Dancer from the Dance.

message 4: by Dave (new)

Dave Oh, Dancer from the Dance redefined this genre and proved men write gay people better than women did. You may never go back to m/m fiction after you read it,

message 5: by Jon (new)

Jon Denton So I have heard, Dave! I would give "All Fours" and "I Make Envy on Your Disco" a read. I'm stuck in the hot U.S.A. but in "Disco" it was autumn in Berlin, and it was nice.

Blackouts is very beautiful, subtle, moving and thought provoking - I'm sure you'll love it.

Christopher Love "Dancer from the Dancer." I still read it every three years or so. I wrote about its influence on my life for Xtra:

"I Make Envy on Your Disco" sounds great. Will check it out. Thanks!

Tony Just finished 2 vacation reads: "In Tongues," which I liked a lot. Sort of a gay version of Emma Cline's "The Guest" but with less crime. And also read Miranda July's "All Fours," which was a middling read for me; the first half was stunning, couldn't stop reading, but the second half meandered a bit, lost a lot of energy for me.

Also reread Mark Merlis's "An Arrow's Flight" for the third time, and it's fantastic. It would make a very good companion to "Dancer from the Dance!" I'm thinking of rereading all of Merlis's books (4 of them, I think?), as I think his overall subject was the tricky, not-always-pretty - sometimes really ugly - areas of gay life, while still celebrating and reveling in queer lives.

Sato Ichikikushikino on page 40 of Giovanni’s Room. already chills. super stoked to see where Baldwin takes my emotions!

Baylan Can't wait to watch the last season of The Umbrella Academy streaming tomorrow on Netflix

Thanks Liam. Had not got to it yet but this is a motivator!

Baylan Read Rob Byrnes's Grant & Chase series and it's just *chef's kiss*

I totally agree about "In Tongues". And "All Fours" which ran out of steam. I'm reading the new Garth Greenwell which is good, but a bit niche. "I Make Envy on Your Disco" was definitely my fave book of the summer, along with "In Tongues."
