I appreciate you reading the book, and it's too bad it didn't work for you. I do want to ask you though, what did you feel was done for shock value? I ask because that was one of my concerns in writing this story, because I loathe things that are only done for shock value.
In my own defense, every shocking thing that happens is wholly justified by the story. Every shocking thing has a reason for happening.
