It was interesting for me, as the author, to see a reader questioning the veracity of a woman officer in the NYPD in the early 1960s. Apparently, the reader was unfamiliar was my bibliography and the mention of "Detective Marie Cirile: Memoirs of a police officer." Indeed, officer Cirile was among the early officers in the NYPD, where they were, like Caitlin in my novel, often assigned to dealing with children in difficult circumstances. As a writer who does an enormous amount of research, I often wonder why readers would rather criticize you than look at your bibliography. Any thoughts?
