Nicole, I'm sorry you feel this way. I intentionally wrote Gil as unlikeable at the outset in order to show his transformation through his trip and the growth in self-awareness of his behavior through the story. You can see some of that in how the other characters respond to him. Perhaps I overdid it with Gil in the beginning, I certainly wouldn't want anyone to avoid the woods or feel uncomfortable because of my book and I'm sorry if it made you feel this way. One of my goals was to make this a story that would help young men with Gil's attitudes gain some self-awareness of how such behaviors affect people and possibly change for the better, like Gil eventually does.
