I'm betting 2017.
Let's do a bet for A Dream of Spring. Probably something like 2024.

Or maybe by the time it comes out, I'll have lived to my old age and died.

Geoffrey Stokker Based on the time between books, you're probably right about 2018 although I think it might be closer to the holidays. A Dream of Spring in 2024...

Wonder if he's started to consider who might have to finish the series if the unthinkable happens.

message 3: by Michael S. (new)

Michael S. I think 2018 is probably being fairly optimistic. I'm betting the publication dates from here on out will have a lot to do with HBO and what their producers want. Martin's purely in it for the money at this point. Whenever the next book does come out, I just hope it actually progresses the plot some. And it would be really great if Danearys got killed although I know that's not likely.(just my personal wish)

message 4: by Mihir (new)

Mihir I would say late 2016 or early 2017.

message 5: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Well, considering that if HBO stays on the same filming schedule, he'd have to have it out by 2015 since season 6 would be filming then to air in 2016 (unless they start doing more than one season per book).

message 6: by Eric (new)

Eric Allen G.R.R.M. has said that season 3 will only be half of book 3, so it looks like they are splitting to milk it for all it's worth.

Paulo "paper books only" My Bet is 2015. The last book will be 2020.

message 8: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey Stokker At the current speed, Brandon Sanderson might have to finish the series.

Paulo "paper books only" I don't know if that will happen. I read somewhere, have to search for it, that if he dies the series will not be finish by anyone. It's his world.

message 10: by Michael S. (new)

Michael S. Geoffrey--that's hilarious. Maybe Brandon Sanderson should step in and fix the government "shut-down " too! He'd probably straighten that out in no time.

He probably would and he would add a little bit of dramatic flair like a Department of Allomancers or something similar to the government portfolio ;)

Andrew Obrigewitsch Winter 2020, by another author.

message 13: by Senthilkumar (new)

Senthilkumar nadar my worry is this series should have the fate of wheel of time series.nowadays authors should emulate alexandre dumas who is supposed to have written count of monte cristo in one day.

message 14: by Rootstonic (new)

Rootstonic Might be one of the lonely...But I don't care.

Eric Allen Game of Thrones season 5 is bending the story quite a bit further than in previous seasons to stretch what story they have left out. I don't think they're going to make it to book 6 no matter how much stretching they do. Show will either have to go on hiatus for a year or three, or start making up filler. Personally I think I'd prefer a hiatus. I've seen shows run out of the source material and make up their own shit while the author works. Mostly in anime, stuff like the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, naruto, Inuyasha, and quite a few others, but I saw it in american stuff too, like Dexter, where they ran out of books and just kept going, and then when the next book came out, the series was so far off course they they just kept doing their own thing instead of going back to the books. It basically turns into glorified fan fiction, and you know the thing about fan fiction, 99.999999999999999999% of it is absolutely terrible.

იოსებ as i know it will be published in sometimes 2016.

message 17: by Eric (new)

Eric Allen I wish it would be as soon as 2016, but the thing about that is that A Dance with Dragons was "Coming Next Summer" for five years running, so I'm not holding my breath on that one. It's looking like we might be into the '20s before we see this book.

message 18: by Eric (new)

Eric Allen In a recent blog post GRRM stated that he's not going to meet the deadline to have the book out before season 6 of the HBO series, but that the HBO producers have gone off what he already has written of it, and off of outlines for the final book in planning the rest of the series. It will likely end long before the final book comes out in generally the same way as the books would but with the usual typical changes we've seen throughout its run. He is reluctant to give a date when he will actually finish this book, because he has a horrible reaction to deadlines of any kind and it stresses him out so much he gets nothing done, even deadlines set by himself. He says he's got hundreds of pages written, but possibly hundreds more to write. I get the feeling it could be another 2 or 3 years before this book comes out.

message 19: by Rafaelionita8 (new)

Rafaelionita8 I think it will be published, in 2056 or 2057,by someone else.

message 20: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Bertao This is starting to look like a decent guess. I don't think he's anywhere near finishing it at the moment which just makes the fact that he thought it would be done by October 2015 even more ridiculous!

message 21: by Beth (new)

Beth My bet is that the release date winds up coinciding with either the upcoming final season of GoT, the premiere of the spinoff series that HBO has given the green light, or some point in between the two to keep people invested in the ASOIAF universe (which is what I’m leaning towards).... so let’s say 2nd quarter of 2019 at the earliest and the end of 2020 at the latest.

message 22: by Nicko Mocanu (new)

Nicko Mocanu (Elril Moonweaver) My prediction is probably winter 2023, or spring 2025. :D

message 23: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Carter At this point. I don’t think this book will ever be finished.

message 24: by ibrahim (new)

ibrahim predicting summer 2019

Pfffff... Nah!

message 26: by Eric (new)

Eric Allen Yeah. While it would be nice if it actually came out this summer, I just can’t see it actually happening.

message 28: by Eric (new)

Eric Allen Oh, nice! This is kind of the first time that he's really said anything worth noting about the release in a couple of years, I think. Buuuuuut, it's GRRM. I'll believe it when I see an official release date from Bantam.

Nicko Mocanu (Elril Moonweaver) Eric wrote: "I'll believe it when I see an official release date from Bantam"

Good point.

message 30: by Pixie (new)

Pixie To me it's a lot of blahblah with no consistence whatsoever (the interview, not the books). If I put it in my words, here's what he says: So perhaps, probably, he might be able to, unless stuff happens, to maybe have the book finished in more than a year, kind of ... this doesn't seem like anything concrete at all ^^'
Well, I'll love being proven wrong on this one, so let's wait and see!
(not like there's anything else we can do anyway)

message 31: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Spring 2020: current events may force him to sit down and finish. Or maybe not. New prediction?

message 32: by Lennie (new)

Lennie Wynker We're now in May 2021. Your bet was wrong, lol!

message 34: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Is it still funny to make fun of people who said it would come out 4 years ago?

message 35: by Julie (new)

Julie Here we are 2022 and still nothing. I have wait 10 years and have just given up. Guess the horrible movie ending killed the last two books....

message 36: by Ana (new)

Ana Looking at these predictions is so hilarious (and sad) because it's nearing the end of 2022.
My predictions are 2026 for the 6th and we will never get the 7th 🙃
I hope I'm wrong

Eric Allen Timothy wrote: "Is it still funny to make fun of people who said it would come out 4 years ago?"

Yes. Yes it is. Laugh away, my friend. We deserve it.

message 38: by Michael S. (new)

Michael S. I won't read it even if by some unexpected miracle, he actually publishes it. I've forgotten way too much about the characters, plot, etc. to pick it back up now.
