Welcome Children's Fiction Authors and Readers! > Likes and Comments
I have three categories for my book (children's, young adult, and sci-fi), so I'll leave a post here. Title: Constellation Chronicles The Lost Civilization of Aries
Synopsis:
A blinding fireball rips across the night sky and slams into a field in the remote town of Rigel, New Mexico. Glenn Sawyer, a broke and disillusioned 18-year-old, witnesses and investigates the crash, finding a surreal craft and an even stranger monkey-like creature named Paako, who secretly follows him home and stirs up trouble. As Glenn captures Paako and attempts to return her to the crash site, he discovers unexpected company, and learns that his remarkable journey -- filled with adventure, evil, and a cast of captivating characters -- has only just begun.

Smiles. :) I think I'm spending too much time on Goodreads. lol..Actually, I have a goal to crank out the next book in 2010. I'll keep you updated as I go along.
(Paako is already jabbing me with a stick to get on with the writing!)

Paako is easy to fall in love with based on your description. I think anyone reading the book would love to have a "pet" like Paako

I'd like to introduce you to BRANDY AND VAL, REAL DOGS WITH REAL TALES--they're fun stories that entertain and delight children through simple tales about my two shelter dogs. So, they're not really fiction as we all know it, but the first two books, BRANDY AND VAL and BRANDY AND VAL'S FAVORITE THINGS don't fall into the serious, non-fiction category as we know it either. Real, unstaged photos of the dogs in action and brightly colored pages captivate children’s attentions as they read about how the pups spend their day, what their favorite things are and how they were adopted. Children can interact with plush toys that look like Brandy and Val as they learn about topics like friendship, caring for pets and being a family among others. Parents can feel good knowing they are helping animal rescues through their purchase of a Brandy and Val book and toy and they have a product their children will have fun playing with. Hello I'm Lorne Rothman, the author of Southcrop Forest.
"Southcrop Forest" is an ecological fantasy quest and a fable about trees, their remarkable powers, and their declining civilization in a world we humans are rapidly changing. The story is steeped in the natural sciences and native American history, made accessible through an engaging, Tolkienesque narrative. A menagerie of plants and animals parades across its pages. Threats from urban sprawl, deforestation and climate change are central to the plot.
"Southcrop Forest" has won awards for environmental and nature writing, as well as fantasy.

Remember you can not get here by car, you will not get very far. You can not go by plane you will not make much of a gain, You can not travel by train. No, No. You can only travel in a drop of rain.
I hope you all enjoy your trip. Best.
Hello Rahama,Yes . You can go to PurpleUmpkin.com. Thanks and let me know if you would like to travel to PurpleUmpkin. The Murples send their best. So do I.

Vincent: is there a chance to clarify at what age does children's fiction change into young Adult? I have one 12 year old, one 11 year old and one 10 year old with the oldest having the POV. So might this scrape in as children's fiction? Nobody(posting details of their here) seems to mention how old their 'hero' is, so that doesn't help.
Any infomation is helptful>
Hi Cleveland,I'm afraid the age for the two categories varies depending on who you ask.
I personally don't have a preference for the purpose of my group--if an author believes their book is children's fiction, then they can post it under that folder. As a parent, you might want to first scan the book to see if it's in the age you want for your children.
Here are two articles on it on Wikipedia:

Hello I'm Gregg Seeley author of Big Bobby Boom! and the Marble Mayhem. Big Bobby Boom is full of humor, fun, adventure and lots of mischief. Elliot Blue is the new kid in town and is immediately made the target of the school bully Big Bobby Boolacheck aka "Big Bobby Boom!" The Boolachecks run the town with an iron fist and everything in it. Big Bobby Boom and his henchboys terrorize everyone including Elliot in school. Nobody has ever taken a stand or dared to stand up to or challenge the way things are in the town of Bunsel.
Fortunately for Elliot, his trusted cousin Jimmy 'the slick' Blue moves in with Elliot and his family and shows Elliot a few ingenious tricks of his own to deal with the bully problem. Readers will enjoy the antics of Elliot and Jimmy as they become infamous pranksters who go head to head with Big Bobby Boom, crashing his birthday party, planning a bit of hi-jinx in the hockey rink and spicing up lunchtime with hot pepper pie.
BIG BOBBY BOOM! AND THE MARBLE MAYHEM is geared for reluctant and inquisitive readers- as well as being a fun read for anyone who has ever been bullied.

Wondering if you could steer me in the right direction???I'm searching for sites where members would go if they are literacy advocates. I'm thinking of people like parents, grandparents, teachers...for those who enjoy reading to young children.
Any ideas?
Oh, and these sites should have high traffic (lots of members) and recently active.
Thank you so much in advance, and God bless.
Friends of the Library would be my first guess. In the larger towns & cities they may have websites. Or the libraries may have listings of websites.Community services should have literacy advocates, they usually have literacy groups among their services.
If I think of more, I'll get back to you.
What about colleges and universities teaching subjects related to literacy? Students could form groups for the experience, and most have websites of some sort already.
What about sites where these people would go to...to buy or check-out children's books?Uuuummm...my brain's kinda scrambled tonight....ah, but this too shall pass...:).

It's a long time since I last commented on this group. I have a question, I guess it's about copyright...I wrote a children's story 10 years ago with illustrations and against all my friends wishes I never tried to get it published (now I can't draw or colour). I originally did it for all my youngest nieces & nephews. Now I'm rethinking it, and wondering if I put it on my blog, would I still be able to try to get it published? (It's only 9 pgs long in large print with illustrations)
Thanks for any help.
Betty
Hi Betty,Did you ever resister it with the copyright office? If you put it on your blog you still own the copyright(registered or not it is your copy right. Though you should register it for federal protection). If you put it on your blog it could be spread almost any where making probably not ideal for a publisher. If you are thinking of publishing it, hold off on the blog.
If you need any advice let me know and I will help if I can.

What a great group! I am an author of two adult novels, and I have my first YA book coming out in September. It's called The Secret Society of the Pink Crystal Ball, a story about Erin Channing, a 10th grader who inherits a pink crystal ball (a toy similar to a magic "answer ball" – you ask it a question, and a new age-y answer appears) from her recently deceased, somewhat crazy aunt. Except that this ball is really magic, and everything Erin asks it starts coming true. The ball comes with a set of cryptic rules for how to use it, and over the course of the book Erin and her two best friends have to figure them out. Of course, as in most teen stories, there is the requisite mean girl, the weird guy, and the awesome, boyfriend-material guy who is under Erin’s nose the whole time, only she doesn’t realize it until she’s messed everything up with him. Ultimately, it's a story about being open to new experiences while still staying true to yourself. I hope you'll read it and I look forward to reading lots of books by authors on here!
I have just released Candy Wars: The Tooth Fairies vs The Candy King. You may not like your sister, but are you really going to fight a war against her?
James and Emily never get on - always fighting and arguing! But when James wakes up one night as his tooth is stolen by a jelly monster he follows it into a weird and wonderful world. Chocolate archers come out of the walls and fly in bubble gum balloons, giant rock candy trolls roam around, icing sugar snowmen appear and disappear, all under the direction of the Candy King who is preparing a war against the tooth fairies! Soon Emily and their cat Muffins find themselves joining the fairies, with only a toothless dragon and a phoenix with hay fever to help them fight the mighty Candy Army!
Candy Wars is a fantasy novel for all ages. It examines themes of sibling rivalry, family and sacrifice, whilst immersing the reader in a world rich in imagination and chocolate!
“The Candy King is waiting for you.”

My book was aimed at children aged 10+ but I know lots of teens and adults who have enjoyed it as light reading. I would describe it as a fantasy adventure with a historical style setting. My lead character is a girl called Bryony. She is an orphan and at the age of 14 has to join her cousin, the King, at Court. As her life changes, she quickly learns that the King is not as benevolent as he seems and her family is not as she thought.
A Louse of a MouseMy book 'A Louse of a Mouse' is available at www.fairytalesanddreams.com and is my second published book. Please join my group at children's book authors/illustrators on goodreads!
I forgot to post the cover in the previous mention of my new book ' A Louse of a Mouse' available at www.fairytalesanddreams.com by Jodi Stone! If you have any questions you may join my goodreads group at http://www.goodreads.com/jodistone
William_D_BurtThe King of the Trees
This is the first book in my "King of the Trees" fantasy series of 7 titles (so far). The King of the Trees makes clean, adventuresome reading for ages 8 and up, including young adults and adults, especially those who enjoy Narnia. The King of the Trees makes a great readaloud, too. (I purposely included a glossary and pronunciation guide at the back of each title in my series.)
"What do an old wooden box, a jeweled pendant and some mysterious, green-garbed strangers share in common? When Rolin son of Gannon sets out to solve this riddle, his adventures take him worlds beyond the walls of his little log cabin. On their perilous quest for the blessed Isle of Luralin, Rolin and some grumpy griffins must trust the King with their very lives."

Hi My name is April Terhaar.I am a childrens book author. I just published Through the Eyes of Snowball. It is about my dog Snowball. It has actual photos of Snowball from puppyhood to adulthood.
Through the Eyes of Snowball
'Leon Chameleon PI and the case of the kidnapped mouse' by Janet Hurst-Nicholson.(chapter book for 7-12 year-olds)
http://bit.ly/cmxFDd
"When Mr Woodland Mouse mysteriously disappears, Constable Mole is quick to enlist the help of Leon Chameleon, Private Investigator, whose expertise enabled the Pigeon Valley Police to solve the case of the missing canary eggs.
After organising a search, Leon realises that there is only one creature in the valley who can spring the captured mouse from his prison. But just when he thinks Mr Woodland Mouse is safely on his way home, the plan goes horribly wrong..."
Leon Chameleon is a Private Investigator who lives in Pigeon Valley in Durban, KZN South Africa. He joins forces with the Pigeon Valley police (Sergeant Loerie – a bird who is in charge of the Flying Squad, and Constable Mole who is in charge of Underground Operations) to solve crimes committed in the Valley
The Leon Chameleon books are humorous/animal/detective/education stories (a librarian’s nightmare). All the details concerning the animals’ lifestyles are correct (except for Constable Mole’s sunglasses) so children learn about nature without even realising it. The books have been well-received by both children and adults (a nine-year-old reviewer wrote, “My mother read it to my younger brother and laughed a lot as the author, she says, has written the book in a way that makes it funny for parents to read. My mother doesn’t like reading Noddy to us because she says it’s too boring for her.”)
Children in the UK and US have enjoyed learning about the small animals of South Africa and there is a chapter of ‘interesting facts’ at the end of the book.

Hi, all. I've written my first children's book--something I've wanted to do since I was eight. It's about Lanesha, a special 12 year old surviving Hurricane Katrina. I woke one morning and Lanesha's voice was inside my head, giving me the novel's opening lines.
My first YA was just released: ROT & RUIN (Simon & Schuster, hardcover). Here's the info on the book:In the zombie-infested world Benny has grown up in, every teenager must work once they turn fifteen—or they’ll lose their food rations. Benny isn’t interested in taking on the family business, but he reluctantly agrees to train as a zombie killer with his boring big brother, Tom. He expects a dull job, whacking zombies for cash. What he discovers is a vocation that will teach him what it really means to be human.
As Benny’s worldview is challenged again and again by the lessons he learns from Tom, he is forced to confront another horrifying reality: sometimes, the most terrible monsters are the human ones.
Critically acclaimed author Jonathan Maberry crafts a terrifying future vision of the zombie apocalypse, brought to life through the rich emotional struggles of a teenager trying to find his place in a tumultuous new world.
Available in hardcover everywhere; and as an ebook for Kindble and Nook.
When you're on vacation or on a long road trip, why not download your copy of Big Bobby Boom! and the Marble Mayhem. It will be worth the laugh you'll get. So go the site below and get your copy now!http://www.moosehidebooks.com/cgi-bin...
My second book is finally published after several hiccups and delays. It follows on from my first, Blood and Allegiance, continuing the adventures of Bryony, her friends and family in the imaginary, medieval style world of Athlandia. It is called Escape and Betrayal - The Second Book of Athlandia and is currently a giveaway on Goodreads.
