Noël Cades For me, the issue was less the usual -isms of the period, but the fact that these people were essentially a kind of "uncontacted tribe" - with women and children - who may have been there for hundreds of years. But they were all just considered "robbers" deserving of eternal imprisonment in the forest. The children were even referred to as "robber children". Not a single thought was given to their future or welfare when the mountain tunnel was blocked forever.

I also wondered what happened to the donkeys that were stolen by the robbers - I couldn't see them getting through the various holes and tunnels and waterfalls. Were they abandoned on the mountain somewhere?
