J.U. Scribe I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how rare it is to find young adult historical fiction that blends coming-of-age themes with the drama and intrigue of the Roman era. There are plenty of adult epics and military sagas out there, but not many stories that explore what it’s like to grow up physically, emotionally, and morally, against the backdrop of ancient Rome.

As a writer myself, I’ve been working on a series that dives into exactly that: a young prince navigating identity, power, and purpose on a fictional island influenced by Roman culture. But as a reader, I’m always on the lookout for more books in this niche.
So I’m curious, are there any writers in this group who write in this niche? And for readers, is that a niche you would be interested in reading about?

Becky Moved this to the Recommendations folder. It’s more likely to get results there.

Jacklyn Lo Hi J.U.,

I love the concept you're exploring with your series! Historical fiction set in the Roman era, especially from a young adult perspective, is such a unique niche. While my books don't dive directly into Roman history, I write stories that blend historical settings with rich personal journeys.

One of my novels, Redemption, explores the intersection of past lives, including moments in history that touch on themes of power, identity, and destiny. While it spans multiple time periods, there's a similar coming-of-age thread as characters navigate their roles in different eras.

I also have a more medieval story, Hamlet's Last Choice, that touches on identity and the moral choices of a young prince, which may also resonate with your themes of navigating power and purpose.

I'd love to hear more about your series and see if there are any overlaps in our themes! :)

Best,
Jacklyn A. Lo
