I agree about the language, but it was still a fun read.
I gave it five stars, but most of your points are valid.
I just found it a bloody good read.
The trick with most SF is to try to ignore the scientifically wonky bits.

I do agree with you both (I guess we all agree with each other). I did really enjoy it.
Grace was a bit "over-powered", right!? I guess the author wanted the speculation of communicating with aliens but needed to keep the time-frame compact. But yes, fun read overall.
