Gary Inbinder One of my favorite Balzac novels, with its realistic view of the seamy side of journalism, the theater and politics in 1830's Paris.

P.E. I did not know at first the opening section of this novel came along with free abdominal exercises :D The monstrous portrayal of David Séchard's father, the original owner of the old printing company, was terribly effective on me, it reminded me of the best pages by Léon Bloy in his Histoires désobligeantes!
