I had the privilege of taking Chris Leland's creative writing class in college. A brilliant, funny, flawed man. It was a pleasure to know him. This is an excellent book with a fantastic ending that was both tragic and uplifting. If you like literary fiction, it might be up your alley (if you can find it!).
