Gertie Thank you for joining us! Here are guidelines to help you navigate the group. We love having you in the group, but as a contributor, not an advertiser. Please put yourself in the shoes of regular group members when posting.

Also useful: "I'm new to Goodreads/this group, how do I promote my book?"

For all members:

1) Mark spoiler threads and hide spoilers in non-spoiler threads (no matter how old).
How To.
2) Use text links when mentioning book titles.
How To.
3) Does the dog (cat, etc.) die? Answer in spoiler tags, so that those who need to know can, and those who don't won't get spoilers. Also, here is https://www.doesthedogdie.com/

For authors/bloggers/publishers etc..
1) Please remember I am not your marketer. but I am happy to help you use group resources. Feel free to message with questions. Note that monthly club reads are democratically selected.

2) Do not drop references to your book in general discussion unless asked for. We want discussions, not commercials. :-P

3) To announce news, use the prescribed folders and threads; marked with the [@] symbol. (See comment #2 for tips.)

4) Do not manipulate nominations or polls.
Vote recruiting, dummy accounts etc. will result in disqualification.

For a little extra info: Goodreads rules of conduct.

Thanks for reading! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Gertie Good places to mention your book:

•Add your book the group bookshelves! Just put it on the "To Read" shelf (not the Read shelf) and select any secondary shelves that apply.

Authors, Publishers, Bloggers is for general promotional announcements or offers.

• The Cheap ebooks and Temporary Promotions threads are great places to advertise your book if it qualifies in price.

• The Advice, Read 4 Review, Beta, is set up explicitly to help authors and readers work symbiotically. Have a question for readers? Want to trade books for reviews? Start a thread there and see if anyone bites. :-)

The Do's and Don'ts of Being a Goodreads Author

• If you are curious about the group giveaways, feel free to check out the giveaways currently running to see what they are like. If you are interested in signing up, here is the topic: Giveaways

Gertie I have to reiterate this one, do not offer the moderator (me) with book offers or contact me asking me to make your announcements for you unless it is for a good cause/charity. If you have news, see above.

However, if you have a question, message me, certainly! I'll do my best to help. :-)

Gertie Book club discussion selections
Details from item #1 in the first comment.

Books read by the book club are nominated by members, followed by voting via polls. Authors cannot nominate their own books, for obvious reasons. (We do occasionally do discussions of a book using the same process but with only GR authors' nominations.))

If you want a better sense of the process, take a look at some of the previous nominations and polls.

Pamellia I'm not exactly a newby, but I do appreciate the conduct protocol. I think this is the third or fourth time I have read it. Well done.

Gertie Thanks! Have to at least lead the horse to water... then hope he is thirsty. :-)

message 14: by Richard (new)

Edwards Richard How do I read a story here? I am brand new here. I would like to be able to read the work of the other writers here. Why because wish to learn through your help in this matter?

message 15: by Gertie (new)

Gertie I'm actually not sure how to answer that question. There are only a couple of options I can think of —

There are a handful of short stories here in the group , though there aren't that many and they're fairly short.

Books you can download free from Goodteads: https://www.goodreads.com/ebooks

Sometimes you can find full length books for free to read through Goodreads, though most books just have samples. Here are some full free ones:

David L Wallace Hey, Fellow Readers and Authors -

I'm glad to be a new member and I'm looking forward to making some new friends. I'm not familiar with add books to a bookshelf or how to check one out. I'll take a crack at those things today.

Let's keep on Reading and Writing in the Free World...

message 18: by Gertie (new)

Gertie Hi David, welcome. The bookshelves just represent collections of books, no checking in or out. But it is possible to add to them, just click Bookshelf on the far right and there is an Add Book option on the top left of the page you get.

Manoranjan Ghoshal Hi, just launch this book, Invention of Bini’s Ghost Viewing Device
By G Minerva
A Scientist’s Journey to Prove That Death Is Not the End
When fear ruled over reason, one young scientist dared to question the unknown.
Bini was never one to believe in ghosts. In a village steeped in superstition and ritual, she trusted only in equations and experiments. But when tragedy and mystery collide, her logic is shaken — and a question arises that no textbook can answer:
What exactly is a ghost?
Driven by unyielding curiosity, Bini begins a bold experiment to uncover the truth hidden behind centuries of fear. Her creation — The Etherioscope, a revolutionary device designed to detect and visualize the energy of the departed — opens a door humanity was never meant to see.
As science captures its first glimpse of the afterlife, Bini finds herself at the crossroads of wonder and terror, witnessing spirits who laugh, feel, and remember. What she discovers will forever blur the line between life and death, matter and memory, science and soul.
A haunting blend of scientific imagination, mystery, and metaphysical wonder, Invention of Bini’s Ghost Viewing Device is a breathtaking story about discovery, courage, and the eternal question that defines us all —
Is death the end, or just the beginning of another existence?
Invention of Bini's Ghost Viewing Device: A Scientist’s Journey to Prove That Death Is Not the End G Minerva
