Bold. But I respect it.
💀💀💀 no but fr this book was fantastic. Also
I noticed the similarities between crawford and crewson…anything there?
Samantha! I HAVE TO ASK. because I grew up a JW and left in my early 40s, and you putting in a queer DFd JW in the story was very relatable to me ... did you create her character based on personal experience? I know this is a person's question, and I apologize for overstepping if I am. You don't have to respond. But it's just nice to read about characters that are relatable. I was not DFd for being queer. I left on my own accord because I had too many questions and was very unhappy in the cult (not even knowing it was a cult when I left). But being so separated from it now, I see it for what it is, and I appreciate you putting Zoe in this book. I loved the story, by the way! I look forward to more books from you!
I *FLEW* to goodreads to find your other books, and I am gobsmacked that this was a debut. Please write more books for me to read. I literally finished it two minutes ago, accidentally keeping my wife and toddler awake until 11pm because they won’t go to sleep without me and I couldn’t put it down!
I just finished the book, and I loved it. Very powerful. And it’s always a nice surprise to discover more queer authors and characters!

Hi hi! You wrote this comments months ago, and I'm so sorry it took me this long to reply! I try to honor Goodreads as a space for reviewers, so I try to avoid ESTIB's page as much as I can.
To answer your question, I did not grow up JW. However, I had neighbors who were JW. Their older kids were my brother's age, and he was friends with a couple of them, so I learned about their practices and beliefs secondhand. I have a branch of my family that's JW, but they live overseas, and I've never actually met them in person!
If anything, Zoe's experience is my own religious trauma dialed up to 11. (Unlike Zoe, I have VERY loving and accepting parents!) I attended a Christian school until I was about 14, and I still carry a lot of pain from those years that I hope to explore in greater depth in future books.
Thank you so much for reading! :)
