Jim Kuenzli Best books ever written

message 9: by Skallagrimsen (new)

Skallagrimsen I wonder if this book introduces the concept of the gods of various mythologies co-existing in the same reality, like different human tribes. It's a familiar idea now thanks to Marvel comics, Dungeons and Dragons, and undoubtedly other sources, but Anderson was the first to conceive of it, that I know of.

i personally have been basing my ratings & thoughts on books this year by judging them in comparison to how much i enjoyed this book lol. i read it early in the year, it was my first 5 star read of 2025, and every book since then i've finished it & been like "did i enjoy it as much as the broken sword? no? okay, 4 stars then"

The Bauchler I read it close on 40 years ago and I think it's been one of my yardsticks for every fantasy novel I've subsequently read:)
