I had to study it as part of my English Language and Literature degree and I must admit I found it a difficult read, along the Spenser's 'The Faerie Queene'. But like Milton's Paradise Lost, it is literature that one should read at some stage in one's life.
One hundred percent agree with your words, classics should be read.
