This is based on a true story of a young Old Colony Mennonite girls names Gerda who witnessed her father's murder in Ontario and then her mother deserted her due to her mental illness. She was shuffled from home to home until she was placed in Edgar Occupational Institute where she would learn skills to find employment in society. The abuse and stress of this institution would drive Gerda to seek peace within the forest on the property where she was held against her will.It is there that the animals and birds would show her how to be kind, learn patience and acceptance. Follow Gerda on her journey to safety and personal growth that society would not give her.
