I am surprised that you use the word surreal, what you describe here sounds more maybe a wird might be hyperreal - you know a slight exaggeration of current trends and reality than than surreal which I'd take more as flying pigs and the like?!
I learned a word to describe such work recently from a writer friend: irrealism, to distinguish it from the word surreal, which gets thrown around a lot sloppily by people like me. . . Hyper sounds better, sure.
