This sounds like it would be a fascinating read without the added element of knowing this was your own ancestor. How harrowing! And, I am familiar with that what if discovery, Lori. I have an ancestor who went off at 21 to fight the Civil War. He was killed in his first battle. He left his new bride at home without knowing that she was pregnant. How easily the line could have just been broken right there. Talk about your close call!

It was fascinating but the writing was a bit dated. I grew up knowing about this but had never actually read an account. The author actually includes several of the accounts in this book just to show how word of mouth affects a story.
What a harrowing story you have as well, Sara. I am convinced that the Hand of God is in our lives and His plans are sovereign!!
