Werner Here's the thread where we'll take nominations (and seconds) for our January Fiction group read! I'll edit this post to keep track of the nominees as they come in.

1. I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes
2. Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh
3. The Bird Hotel by Joyce Maynard
4. Trapeze by Simon Mawer

message 2: by Debie (new)

Debie Orrell I nominate Theo of Golden by Allen Levi.

message 3: by Ethan (last edited Dec 01, 2025 09:00AM) (new)

Ethan Michaels I nominate "I Am Pilgrim" by Terry Hayes.

message 4: by John (new)

John Warner I second Theo of Golden.

message 5: by Werner (new)

Werner The premise of Theo of Golden is very intriguing; but according to the Goodreads description, it was just published this past October (so, less than two months ago). According to our rules for group reads (here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ), books just published in the past year aren't eligible. :-( However, you could suggest it for a buddy read, if you want to.

message 7: by John (new)

John Warner I recommend Old Soul by Susan Barker.

message 8: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton I’ll nominate The Bird Hotel by Joyce Maynard

message 9: by Werner (new)

Werner John, although Old Soul has been in print longer than Theo of Golden, it was still first published this year (Jan. 28, 2025), so still falls in the too-recent range, though not by far. Sorry! It will be eligible in time to be nominated, in early February, for the March 2026 Fiction read, if you want to do that. You could also suggest it now as a buddy read (see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ).

John Warner Trying it once again...

I would like to nominate Trapeze by Simon Mawer.

Werner The third time was the charm, John! (Thanks for your patience.)

message 13: by Werner (new)

Werner Debra, we've already done a Fiction group read of A Man Called Ove, in October 2021. (Backman has been a popular author in this group; we've also done reads of his novels Anxious People and Beartown.)

Thank you, Werner, for your patience demonstrated for those who are slow in remembering the group rules.

Werner John, you're sweet! (Virtual fist-bump.)

Oops. Sorry. Good gosh where is my brain!

Nothing wrong with your brain, Debra; I didn't remember that either! The only reason I caught it was that, on an impulse, I decided to check our Directory thread, here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... . (And many thanks to Bionic Jean and Amber for all their hard work in keeping that thread current!)
