Rusty Berr I haven't read the longer version yet, I picked up a used copy at Goodwill a couple of months ago so no time like the present.

Nikki Enjoy the ride! I love how he develops each character and we get to follow them before the illness and afterwards. How their behavior changes throughout the book. I've read The Stand a few times. The last time I listened to the audio version. I read fast so I increased the playback speed. It was done well.

Henrik its amazing how SK had managed to create a post-apocalyptic story that keeps you hooked without involving zombies or other monsters

Nick Anyone happen to know how you can find a copy of the original version of the stand?

There are some on ebay. Be sure to include "1978" in your search, e.g., Stephen King The Stand 1978.

After you do, for fun, sort by highest price first.

Squire I got my 1st print HC when it came out. I made it through the 1990 version once. That's enough for me. No more. I've read the original 4 times. It's a masterpiece.

message 12: by Oscar (new)

Oscar I have never read this so I am in! Cool to read such a large book with you all. 😆

message 13: by Evie (new)

Evie Peterson I read the larger and re edited version and I absolutely love it! It is such a wild ride and I hope to read the original.

Kat (Katlovesbooks) Dietrich This will be my 4th reading of The Stand. Probably my favorite King novel. This is the first time I'm reading the extended version. The characters in this book stay with me.
