Chris Thoughtful review. I especially liked the quote about education is supposed to make students THINK! It would frustrate me to teach professionals and witness their lack of problem-solving and their desire to have answers spoon fed to them. AAUGH!

Dmitri An interesting topic and review William. I see at least three factors: child coddling, online distraction and pandemic desocialization. There’s probably more as well.

Totally agree Chris! It's surprising how many people want answers spoon fed their way.

Robert Jeens I have been teaching college students for over 20 years and students generally for 30 years. Yes, it is in Korea, not North America. I don't find them more sensitive now than they were in the past, mostly. A few are. The big difference is that they are all addicted to their phones and it is necessary to adopt strategies to keep them off them in class.

William Cooper interesting perspective Robert. what strategies do you use?

Mike (HistoryBuff) Insightful review William. This topic has been drawing some attention. I agree with Dmitri that social media/online distractions play a role.

I have given up on paperless teaching. It was a bad idea. Paper textbooks, photocopies. They can't get distracted by looking at a screen. If they are looking at a screen, they aren't paying attention. Then I will say something.
The first day, I make everyone put their phones in their bags.

Kristine Nice Review. I have been meaning to Read this book, among so many others for a long time. I do like that you added in the quote from the book: “Free speech and the ability to tolerate offense are the hallmarks of a free and open society.” This is important and at the College Level to need a Several Trigger Warnings or Completely Stop Speakers from being on Campus that go against your own views, concerns me.

William Cooper I hear what you're saying, Kristine. And agreed, that is an important quote. Thank you.
