Maybe we should wait until we see if we like this one before scheduling more? Some of the books have been hit or miss for me, but I also have found that I really like or dislike one in each trilogy pretty much every time.

Sure. I'm usually a completionist--if I start I'll want to finish--but I also don't like reading lonely anymore...

I’m going to join this one. I got off track with the others but I’d read them all previously. This one will be new for me.

I am starting this one a bit early. So far 20% in I am enjoying seeing the new characters and some familiar faces were just spoken about.

Chapter 7: (view spoiler)[ Destina seems like a spoiled brat somewhat. She is shooting the messenger, who is her mother, about the omens. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 10 (view spoiler)[ I do not like Destina at all. I really hope she either grows up some and gains maturity or is written out of the story. I feel for her mother and would like to see her point of view instead. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 26: (view spoiler)[ Tas getting married, lol. I just don't see it lasting. (hide spoiler)]

I started today, and I'm apparently liking Destina a lot more than you @Rachel, lol. Through Book 1 (Chapter 10) (view spoiler)[She seems like her father's daughter, and at odds with her mother due to how much she reveres her father, and then his memory, over her mother's sage advice. It can be hard to let go of what you have, especially when it is all that is left of someone you loved.

I was actually thinking how it was nice to have a female focus after so long... most of the women have been either stereotypes or evil so far in the series... Destina seems a little more realistic.

Her mom is pretty badass though. I loved her attacking the cousin's entourage (his wife's entourage?) with the rolled-up document. (hide spoiler)]

I'm pretty invested in the story and enjoying it. Gender discrimination is worthy of a good grrr. I just really hope we get to see the cousin (and especially wife) taken down inch by inch. And the slimy non-fiance. And I hope she gets to ride a dragon.

Through Book 2 (Chapter 22) (view spoiler)[I'm glad we're starting to get some connections to the previous stories. Grey Gem back (rather sad name) and Destina searching for a way to bring her father back--put on the trail of Tas. Yay Tas! I'd rather prefer of Destina tried alternative methods of solving her problems though. Bringing someone back to life is... extreme. And I don't see why her case would be more important than that of all the other people in the world who have lost loved ones. (hide spoiler)]

I have only 5 books to catch up, so I am starting now!

Finished! And OMG (view spoiler)[Tas "getting married" to Destina while she was shapechanged into a Kinder... I don't even... I could laugh or pull my hair out. Which is how most folks feel around Kinder, I suppose...

That whole sequence did make me feel more harshly towards Destina though. Instead of growing, she's kinda doubling-down blind... hoping that growth comes on in the next book... or worried she's going to end up like the antagonist of the last series... (hide spoiler)]

I started this a few days ago. It’s weird to read a DL book with no familiar characters. Though I did see a reference about Sturm.

Just wait. It's coming. Honestly, about... book 3, I think? the timeline becomes clearer. It felt weird to read another series set chronologically before some of the others we've read...

So, several of has have started or finished--I think we waited to schedule the rest to make sure we were interested in reading. Who wants to continue? I'll put in requests.

Okay, I only have a bit left but we certainly do see familiar characters. (view spoiler)[ Tas refusing to believe that Mary is Justine and Justine is Mary was hilarious. And I feel like, if a chaos weapon was to get loose in the world, Tas would be involved. Absolute, so that tracks. (hide spoiler)]

This is fun. I get a much less serious vibe of this one. I’m in for the other two.

I agree with everybody, I don’t like Destina. Complete spoiled brat. I hope she gets some sense knocked into her or dies early in the next book. Ha ha. I haven’t even finished it yet. Maybe I’ll get lucky and she dies at the end of this one.

I will be reading the rest of these as well.

I'm somewhere in book 2 now and really enjoying this. I'm not crazy about Destina (view spoiler)[ her disdain for her mother makes me sad (hide spoiler)] but I think she's a character that has the potential for growth and change. I do understand why she is behaving the way she is even if I don't like it. I initially thought this was going to take place after all the other DL books. I can see now how this fits in though and I suspect that (view spoiler)[this could possibly undo some of the things that happened in the War of Souls Trilogy? That might just be wishful thinking on my part though. (hide spoiler)].

Chapter 26 is so funny! (view spoiler)[Ok I knew Destina was going to be Mari, lol, but I wasn't expecting the whole married thing. (hide spoiler)] Also, I forgot to mention earlier how much I love Sabre!

Isn't Mari also the name of a Kinder who goes dark in one of the "later" books?

I don't know. Do you mean in the War of Souls books? I've forgotten a lot about those.

Just looked back through the comments--Choko's been reading her way through the backlog--and she mentioned "Poor Mari! A "corrupted" Kinder... It's kind of sad..." in the Dragons of the Hourglass Mage thread--I wonder if this is supposed to be Mari's backstory, and she never regains her human form? Or gets stuck as a kinder?

Oh yeah, that's who she is. This is happening during that scene I think. I think they just thought she was corrupted because she was acting differently for a kinder. Sorry, I thought you meant there was a Mari in another book too.

Ooooh! I totally didn't realize this was the same scene!!
