I may be a bit of an odd one in that I’m not on TikTok, so I have no clue what’s hot on there, so I apologise if this is a hot rec on TikTok“Tears of the Wolf” by Elisabeth Wheatley. It is High Fantasy with a romance subplot. The story centres around an arranged marriage. Bear in mind the FMC’s child is killed prior to the beginning of the story, and she grieves his death throughout the story. It is book 1 of the Wrath and Weeping series. Book 2 is also published, and book 3 is due to be published in August. Elisabeth has planned 5 books in total.
Okay dark romance girlies —I’ve just finished the Ruinous Love trilogy (Butcher & Blackbird / Leather & Lark / Scythe & Sparrow) and I am OBSESSED.
I need something with the same chaotic energy:
serial killers falling in love, murder as foreplay, elite banter, slow burn tension, but still emotionally wrecking underneath it all.
Basically morally unhinged but make it romantic.
What are we reading next??
I read about 8 books so far this year (I say about as some, non-fiction, I started and still keep reading and not sure I finish). From fiction, my favourite was A Gap In The Sky
It kind of reminded me what I enjoy most about novels, which is a combination of psychological depth, something that feels real, I can related to the characters, and the second element is being taken on a galloping cinematic adventure. This book had it. It’s a beautifully written novel exploring reality, illusion, and human complexity. The narrative was compelling, shifting between three female perspectives at very different stages of life, from childhood to old age.
Despite being quite deep, it was also genuinely funny. Uplifting and strangely life affirming.
