Hi! My name is Bonnie. I’m an avid knitter, but I enjoy sewing, quilting especially art quilting and crochet. Sometimes other odds and ends of crafting find their way in too. I love historical fiction, a non cheesy love story and little bit of other stuff too. Sounds like my crafting, haha! That's so cool that you design embroidery patterns. I have done cross stitch before with kits (Emily Peacock) and really enjoyed them. I have some embroidery kits that I bought during lockdown but never seem to get round to doing them. I think I always worry that some of the stitch types look really hard as opposed to the simple cross of cross stitch. What type of patterns/themes are your favourite to design? Who inspires you? I recently read The Art of Annemieke Mein and was blown away by her work, such stunning pieces. Do you read much in relation to craft works? I have a craft shelf in my Goodreads shelves.

Yes, some embroidery stitches can definitely look intimidating. But I tend to keep things simple myself — I mostly design for blackwork, cross stitch, and half cross stitch. Maybe we could even start a separate thread in the group where I share some free patterns?
I’m especially drawn to non-fiction art, mythology, and folklore. I also love reading about textile art — I’ll definitely take a look at your craft shelf on Goodreads. In general, I read anything that helps me answer questions like “How is this made?”, “How does it work?”, and “What does it mean?”

Cross stitch is very calming indeed and meditational. I have done the Emily Peacock kits of Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Grayson Perry and David Bowie (the last one I won in a giveaway, I was so pleased!) He he, it's easy to buy lots of craft kits and then never get the time to do them. I have a William Morris type design one and one of an Indian goddess that I bought ages ago and haven't got around to! 🤭

I love non-fiction art books, I have just got a copy of A Face To The World by Laura Cumming about self-portraiture, it looks interesting. Mythology and folklore are cool subjects too, I love Stephen Fry's audiobook narration of all the Greek tales.

I haven’t listened to Stephen Fry’s Greek mythology audiobooks yet, but Greek mythology itself is truly fascinating — I completely agree.
And yes, buying kits is much easier than finishing them! 🤭 I think that’s perfectly normal.

It seems to be a fairly "quiet" group in terms of activity. A few people have popped in and said hello but there isn't much in the way of page traffic. Hopefully your pattern will inspire people.
I love Stephen Fry's audio versions because they are easy to follow and he brings real life and character to all the players.

Hi Sophy,Yes, it does seem to be a rather “quiet” group at the moment — though I imagine you would know its rhythm much better than I do, since I’m still quite new here. 😊 Still, even a quiet space can have its own charm.
I’d love to see it gradually become more active, but perhaps it’s a bit like tending a garden: you can water the soil and care for it, yet the blooming happens in its own time. As a newcomer, all I can really do is show up, contribute where I can, and hope that others may feel inspired to join in.
As I mentioned before, I’m planning to put in some effort for a while and do my small part. I’ll leave this thread open so others can introduce themselves if they wish, and meanwhile I’ll gently explore some of the other topics and see where the conversations might lead. 😊

mostly amigurumi, but I also make headbands and scrunchies 🙃 I rly want to try making a cardigan one day this yr tho - and tapestries! oh, and I started making these sock slippers thing, but it's kinda forgotten rn, bc I was making a tapestry of an oxygen bhor model for my science teacher and then last month got rly budy and I kinda forgot about both of them 🥲

Aww cool, I love amigurumi but I'm not patient enough to stick with it! I made a pineapple once that sits on my windowsill but that's about it! 🤣🍍
Cardigans and jumpers can be really easy to do, just basically squares or rectangles then you attach them all together at the end! I want to do a tapestry too, there is one with bookshelves with cats and books, that would be my ideal subject!

Hmm, olives is quite divisive I suppose. I love them! Maybe Marmite, chips/cheese/curry combo and peanut butter are other love/hate things I've come across (not keen on Marmite, love the combo, love peanut butter!)

well, that sheep just got an army, bc I signed up with my youth group to crochet stuff for the sunday schooll class and now I have a week to make 14 more sheep 😅 I'm also using the wrong size hook for this yarn, and it's bugging me...... Non fiction is hard to get into when you're still at school because you're forced to read stuff for school all the time. I think when you're older, you can curate your own interests more and read non-fiction about topics that you like/interested in with no pressure/expectation.

Aloha everyone, I'm Choyang a "cowboy knitter" (knitting while meandering around on horseback; yeah, it's an old tradition, very conducive for making socks). I've been knitting since little kid times. I'm also a painter/artist (and professional cook) who likes fiber arts, too, including doing Navajo-style loom weaving for years. I had to leave my loom behind (that me and a friend built) when I moved from New Mexico to Hawaii.
Now learning Japanese Sashiko embroidery, as well as attempting to learn crochet to make little Amigurumi animals to give to kids.
So...that's me, sorted! ;-)
