I'm a little apprehensive about another volume. I feel a little like I'm being TOLD to read it.

How many volumes deep are you, Nick? Should I post bail?

I've only read the first volume. Could one actually read any other in random order, though, there's a question for an eternally looping theme!
I was lent a copy by a friend who wanted to discuss it. She has volume 2 and maybe more. I'm going to slowly depend on her pace and enthusiasm.

It sounds like a good strategy, relying on a reader friend you trust. I think the second volume was a tick above the first, thanks to the travel element in search of seasons when you're stuck in one season. And the third, with the surprise I chose not to reveal at the end of Vol. II, may make the series more appealing still. I mean, she HAD to do SOMEthing, right?
I'm sure this is the most fitting review of this book yet, Ken. And it's a review that pushes me closer to reading the books because I'm interested in the little variation you've varied your first review in order to describe. Variations, music, seasons, now I'm properly intrigued.
By the way, the only writer I've repeated a review for is Ivy Compton Burnett. She kind of wrote the same book over and over only changing the characters' names and some plot details so one review for all the volumes suited well!

It's hard to ignore them, esp. when so many reviewers here keep giving it 4 and 5 stars. Must be something to it. Maybe it's the fact that (like it or not) repetition and ritual are such stalwarts in our lives.

But, what a good feeling having the place to yourself for an afternoon, I hope you get many more.
