I've recently reread this monster and promptly took it to my local indie shop for their shelves - twice is enough but what a trip it was AGAIN!
What do they say about rereading? That the first read is just preparation.

Will have to read this now given your discussion. I’ve meant to read his “Reader” for some time as well. I’ve just been through another, much shorter tunnel, one by Ernesto Sábato. Short enough to hold your breath and make a wish.
