Caleb Fast Before you post anything, please be sure to let the community know who you are!

Here are a few ideas for where you can start!
What's your Name?
Are you an Author or Reader?
Favorite Military Sci-Fi Book?
Favorite Military Sci-Fi Movie/TV Show?
Favorite Alien Race?
Feel free to get creative here as well! Maybe you could tell us what military sci-fi universe you would like to live in!

Authors, this is not the place to push your book. Feel free to mention it, by all means, but please don't do all your promoting here!

Francine Bates Hi, my name is Francine! I am a voracious reader of science fiction, there's no better genre.
My favorite military sci-fi has to be just about the whole Stargate series with the exception of SGU that just seemed to lose its original Stargate roots. I did like how they made the Ancients' tech more antiquated for it though, that was a good touch. Everything in the Stargate universe was great.
And my favorite alien race would have to be Marvin the Martian. (A joke!) I don't have a favorite, there are lots of cool aliens out there in sci-fi!

Welcome in!
I haven't read any of John Ringo's works, but I have heard great things. I know he's on my growing list of TBR authors. :) And I love snarky A.I.s as well, they provide some comedic lightness to stories that can get really, really dark. Craig Alanson is a great author, I've enjoyed his works too! :)

One book I can recommend from an up-and-coming author is "Realm Wars" by Jesse James. He's a friend of mine, and a moderator of this group too! Here's a link to his book:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Sadly, he only has one book out right now, but he's working on the next and nearly has it finished! :) Another book I will always recommend is Starship Troopers. Great book all the way around.

Happy reading!

Welcome in!

I'm always happy to hear from another SG-1 fan, that show was awesome! I loved SG Atlantis too, but I did sense some repetition.

I hope you find yourself right at home in this group! :D Feel free to reach out if there's anything you think this group might need.

Love the setup for your intro! Very nice!
The Trader's Tales books look interesting, I'm adding them to my own reading list now. I've heard good things about Nathan Lowell in the past.

I loved Battlestar Galactica too! But, I only watched the old one, not the new. As for Star Trek, there was plenty of stuff I liked there too, but I'm a big "pew pew!" guy, so Star Wars is a little more my speed. *Queue explosions*

Welcome in and I hope you enjoy your time here! :)

message 10: by Neil (new)

Neil Richardson Thanks for the welcome Caleb. I want to add Firefly and The Mandalorian to my list of series, I hope they satisfy your pew-pew desires ;)

No doubt I'll think of other series and movies as time goes on but when I first typed my introduction I was stumped by the questions. It was like a spotlight hit my eyes and an old German accent could be heard in my ear "Ve vill make you talk!" ;-) Naturally, I couldn't think straight.

Neil Richardson Aliens! I just remembered how awesome the movie Aliens really is. I'd like to add that too. ;)

Mandalorian is LIT! It's the exact type of show I always wanted to see from Star Wars... plus Baby Yoda. Lol Firefly is on my watch list. I've seen a smidge, but still need to finish. Trying to ration it out so I don't burn through all they have too fast. :(

Lol Sorry to put you on the spot with them, but your answers were amazing!

And yes, Alien definitely fits. Lol

Chuck Grossart Hi all, Chuck Grossart here. I'm a big fan of almost anything sci-fi.

I'm one of those kids who grew up on Star Trek (the original series, thank you). It came on at 4:30 p.m. every weekday afternoon right after the Brady Bunch, and watching it was part of my after-school ritual. My two favorite episodes were "The Doomsday Machine" and "Balance of Terror." In the summer of 1977, I read a paperback version of Star Wars (which was amazing), and then saw the movie shortly thereafter (which was even MORE amazing). In 1979 when I was in junior high, Battlestar Galactica hit the tube, and it was on every Sunday night for a couple of years. I loved Star Trek, but there was something a little more "realistic" and “gritty” about Galactica—and especially Star Wars—that really resonated with me. The ships, the fighters, the gallant warriors and the terrible villains, all great stuff. The follow-ons as the years went by were great, too. The 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica was probably one of my favorite shows ever. Anyone remember "Space: Above and Beyond" from 1995-96? Another great show, in my opinion.

My favorite mil sci fi books would have to be the Blood on the Stars series by Jay Allan, the Frontlines series by fellow 47North author Marko Kloos, and the Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell.

I'm a science fiction author, both traditionally published and indie, but I won't talk about that here. ;)

Eugene Matthews Hello all! I’m Eugene - after a 20+ yr Army career, I’m finally getting used to a simple introduction! I think I cut my literary teeth on “Space Eagle”, “Battlefield Earth”, and most of Hubbards work.

I also enjoy what I think of as near-future sci-fi, where the story takes place with references to current events that shape the world of tomorrow, more Dicktracy with a Doc Savage vibe.

That said, John Ringo’ series consumed way more hours than I probably should have spent, but once you’re hooked you’re hooked!

Anyway I’m always happy to get hooked on another good series!

message 19: by Chester Hendrix (new)

Chester Hendrix Name: Chester Hendrix
Author/Reader: Yes. been reading since I could (first book was THE FORGOTTEN DOOR - that hooked me into the genre), and my only novel was published last year on Amazon - 1804 (time travel/military history).
Book: Starship Troopers by Heinlein.
Movie: Only 1?! I leave it to you to choose between Aliens (the sequel), Contact and Edge of Tomorrow.
Military TV: the Stargate franchise (only just nudged out Babylon 5). Star Trek is just all over the map in quality - from Brilliant (Voyager) to blatantly awful (do I really need to name names?).
Military movie: Aliens (best sequel ever)
Alien Race: Berserkers (Fred Sabarhagen's machine race dedicated to the extermination of all life).
Book series: Planet of Adventure by Jack Vance (the only book I reread every 8 years or so)
*Whew!*

If you like snarky AIs, then check the Tall Boy series by Scott Moon. Good stuff - and fun!

YES, SIR! I absolutely DO!
Ran over to ebay and picked up a copy - thank you for the memory jog!
