Bitten Andreasen I've never doubted in the idea of Communism. Never for a second. But up here--in Denmark-- being a Communist is the same as being utterly suspicious--and surely a social thief and a junkie and what's worse ;) We are among the vermins :D
Really looking forwardly reading your book !!!!!
Besides --I ran into Willa Cather's books. By incident. Wonder how people look at her "sights of things". She tend to smell a little of Ayn Rand-- but she is reflective and seems objective. American history is difficult--- it easily make one combust (laughter !!!)

Beverly Garside Great! Hope you enjoy it! I think the emotional component of politics is under-represented in fiction.

Bitten Andreasen They are. We tend to be too much "in awe" about things like politics, medical profession and religion. All 3 subjects which touches our life/death balance :D

Lisa I had an older friend whom I met during the nuclear freeze movement who was a Communist until she died. While she was disillusioned with the way the Soviet Union administered Communism, she continued to believe in the ideology of it hoping that it would work for the good of people somewhere.

In the early 1970's, I lived for a short period on a Kibbutz, an Israeli collective farm. I saw it work quite well on a very small scale where people had control.
