I do the same. Sometimes I write around the block. I will write my idea for the blocked area down, even though I don't like it and leave it and continue writing the rest of the story. But I agree, sometimes just leaving it alone and doing something else is best.
For me it is. Fortunately, writing is like playing golf for me -- I love doing both, but I'm glad I don't have to make my living doing either!
