I didn't write that last question well. Of course same sex eroticism have been around, but our view of sex, and our habit to see sexual motivation everywhere is fairly recent. There's both good and bad in that. I'm thinking restraint was more a value of our past, when not everyone saw sexual motivations in most human interactions. I look forward to this book. Eleanor has been a hero of mine since I first read a biography of her written for children. It must have been long before she died.
If you haven't read the letters (Empty Without You, edited by Roger Streitmatter) is a good place to start. As a child, you probably read Lorena's biography, The Story of Eleanor Roosevelt, in the Grosset & Dunlap Signature series, 1959. http://www.rarebookcellar.com/?page=s... To my knowledge, that one, and Lorena's Reluctant First Lady are the two earliest bios of ER.
