I'm a fan of the World of the Five Gods, but I'm happy for you to follow your inspiration and write about whatever grabs you, because writing something is better from our point of view than writing nothing. That being said, your retirement is well earned, and if you want to write nothing, you're entitled to follow that whim, too. I like the saying about hard work, incidentally; haven't seen it before.
I read this question every time I see it, because I’d love to get back into the Vorkosigan universe. Thanks for answering again.
As much as I'd love to see more from the Vorkosiverse, I'm actually quite glad there's a guard hurdle. You've earned the rest and relaxation, so even something as simple as that is a wonderful position to be for all of us: you're not "writing because you need a check rather than because you have a great idea" (or simply want to) and what work we get is pretty much guaranteed to be something good enough to make you want to write it. Keep up the great work when you feel the muse, we'll all be waiting to see what wonders sally forth.
I always look at this answer too. I have hopes for more Ivan adventures in strange new places on his diplomatic career, with brief glimpses back toward the folks on Barrayar.
I also always check the answer any time someone asks this question. With hope of a book with Mark in the center. I feel I’ve had a satisfying closure with everyone else, but him.
